This time round it's frightened people enough to make them run...

But a friend north of Kaikoura tells me there's no fuel available now between ChCh and Blenheim - and Blenheim will run out very soon....

At this point the oil companies can't say when supplies will be replenished.

Darfield appears fine - full of refugees yesterday. Out west and rural all is good with power and water.

Its apparent that this is an A grade disaster.... Talking to my family and their neighbours last night it appears that everyone in chch will be connected to death and serious harm.

The whole country will feel this for decades.

prayers and thoughts are with you all...

I heard about this in the morning while getting ready to go to a trackday (it was in Florida - just in case you are wondering how we could be riding in winter). It is very saddening. I was just there visiting in August..... can't believe the CBD looks like without the Cathedral.

Well wishes from across the pond.... or is it a ditch?

Edit -> This was taken in August just before the All Blacks fed beef to the Aussies...... and yes those fellas walking past were (I believe) the Australian Rugby team. Such a beautiful building....

It is very poignant seeing your photo of the cathedral, after the images of the last few days.

Hopefully in a good way.... I mean I know it looks like a disaster now, but it was my favorite city in NZ when I visited it in August. So, one really needs to hope they either rebuild it, or build something in its place that is even more remarkable. I must mention, that I'm not even a religious person, but that structure added a lot of character to the city.

I just want to express my thoughts and condolences for all those in ChCH. Those who have lost ones and those who have experienced the horrific shake, and lost homes etc.

Just know that there are others who have you all in our hearts at this difficult time.

I still cant get hold of my sister, have heard in a round about way she is with friends after her house split in two and partially collapsed. My nieces house also damaged with flooding and silt through it. So hard when you cant do anything to help

Maybe if you haven't just been through one of the most terrifying times of your life. Maybe if your city isn't damaged significantly. Maybe if you still have access to clean water, working toilets, and power. Maybe if you didn't have to wait for hours to hear from loved ones. Maybe if someone you loved or just even knew hadn't been killed.

And maybe if you're just a wanker yourself. Tosser.

I would love to man. Love to. But unfortunately there isn't a lot of money around for anyone to buy vehicles anymore, let alone someone who's already trying to sell two!

I'll trade you my WRX for it though. Maybe.

Agreed. I personally think our Prime Minister is speaking very well, with good and important points coming across. He is dealing with a country in crisis and doing very well. Weather you are a fan of him or not is irrelevant - the Prime Minister of our country is leading us through this, accepting help from all the right places, and focusing on the right issues first. Thumbs up from me.

FWIW, the above post was made in all seriousness. That said, I'm glad it made some of you laugh in these difficult times.

I was working in the CBD, my bike fell along with all the others beside it. Pales in comparison to the toll some people have to suffer though
