Just saw that no one has heard from Chris (smokeu) so I rang him, got through to him, he's just busy with cleaning etc. Same boat as the rest of us (mostly), no power so can't log in, but he is ok.

Cheers for that Fraser - he's like a lot of young punks, annoying at times but when he's not here you miss him.

We are opening our home to anyone that wants to get away for a few days. Tourism Auckland are co-ordinating. Ring 0800 AUCKLAND if you want to have somewhere to stay. I am told civil defense will pay for taxi chits for travel from airport to detination up here if they have to. Flights are cheap, and I am happy to feed you while you are here. Buy YO Booze.

Please let people know, we have heaps of space and really do want to help if we can.

    Ring 0800 AUCKLAND to arrange.

This is not a joke either, that is the number they have.

Achievement is not always success while reputed failure often is. It is honest endeavor, persistent effort to do the best possible under any and all circumstances.

I'm off down there tomorrow morn to be there and check on my family and friends.
Taking down some empty 20l containers with me.

Is there anything anybody needs me to do for them, bring down for them etc that I can within my limited means?
Even if it means visiting someone for them.

    Cheers

I'm still alive - only just got power back. Sadly my bike is in town across the road from the CTV building. I was at the gym and my bike parked outside when the quake struck. I was also clinging to a machine with a massive concrete beam directly above me that was twisting like rubber and bits of concrete falling on me. After the shaking stopped we just got the fuck out and I didn't even think of going into the changing room to get my keys.

Got outside and I picked up my bike, then tried to get back in to get my keys but wasn't allowed to. We were evacuated to Latimer Square and I planned on going back to get it, hotwire it and ride home but the area had been sealed off. I've tried a couple of times to get in but been turned away. I'm trying again tomorrow but haven't got a lot of hope as it's real close to the Grand Chancellor. I'll try heading in on my pushbike and if I can get to it I'll leave my pushbike behind and ride out. Wish me luck.

If it's fucked it will be a bastard, but my family are all safe and bugger all damage to my house.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

Any way my thoughts are with all our Cantabrian freinds, tough times and I would not wish what you are going through on any one. Stay strong.
