    Scooters are safer

It says so in the Sydney papers. 'They can see further'.

I do like the tag though.

They sit higher, really? I think not. True that they can't go as fast as some licra glad bicyclists.

Intersting article, thanks. My little bikes seat is as high as a scooter so how do they see further? xray vision?

Question. Are the small wheels on scooters as safe as a bikes larger ones?

    Nope.
My past experience with owning a few scooters are if you get one with big wheels, it generally stops better.
I notice the new Italjet scooters have wheels twice the size of traditional ones.

    What a douche.

You have to love the sheer stupidity of his arguments:

"You ride your bicycle down the road at 60km/h with no brakes, no engine and [a very narrow] tyre on the road only wearing lycra,"

    So?

"Scooters are not motorcycles. They have less power and they are sitting higher, so riders' reaction times are quicker because they can see further ahead."

They have less power...but they go the same speed in town...

    Faster reaction times...

If anything, scooter's small wheels make them unstable at speed, reduce braking effectiveness (and increase chance of lock-ups).

I'm astounded that anyone would actually go on record trying to defend this.

Scooters are obviously safer .... why else would they be able to ride around in shorts and jandels while all the people who ride "dangerous" motorcycles are dressed head to toe in leather?

Yeah, but what does that have to do with the scooter?

The scooter itself contains more intelligence than those riders.

Monday I saw a dud on his scoot, jandals, chinstrap undone on helmet, one hand in pocket of his windbreaker, weaving entirely in his own lane as if he was trying to warm his tyres or something.

Of course he was too cool to take his hand out of his pocket to indicate at the roundabout.

What people don't realise is that with every scooter purchased, you get a free set of invisible armour which stops all injuries.
