you should be directing your issues to the government that has high levies within the pricing, if you take them out the price is very reasonable, considering the effort that goes into making the damn stuff.

Yep take all the levies off fuel ,increase corporate tax and the top tax rate to make up for it.

Depends what sort of society you want to live in I guess. I dont think the banks are really gonna miss billion or two off their massive profits.

Banks? Is that where you think the cash comes from to pay for the life-challenged?

But a high price for petrol encourages people to use less (more economical vehicle, reduce unnecessary travel, use public transport, etc) as well as making alternative fuelled vehicles more viable. The Government shouldn't necessarily want or need to reduce the cost of petrol.

I would like to see all the road tax collected from petrol sales used to cover the cost of roads though!

They tried that. Way too transparent, the great unwashed started to ask impertinent questions about the quality of roading purchased by such a monolithic wad of cash.

Nowadays it mostly goes into the decently cloaked consolidated fund where nobody has to explain fuck all.
