Shop: Bakehouse Cafe, Mt Roskill Shops, Dominion Rd, Auckland
    Pie: Steak and Mushroom
    Cost: About $4
Verdict: Very good (9/10), flaky pastry on top, hot all the way through, good size chunks of steak and plently of mushrooms.

They have a Butter Chicken also, which is easily a 10

Had a Makatu mince and cheese out of the bag from Countdown today. Usually these are great pies but, as per normal, supermarkets just dont get it.

It was dry, the filling had busted through the edge of the pastry and the fecking thing was flat.

4/10, bastard corporates....I'm getting P.I.S.S onto their scabby arses.....

I know this place and the butter chook pie as well, blimmin' great bakery all up in fact. They also do great doughnuts (but who gives a f**k about doughnuts).

Steak and mushroom not a personal fave of mine but the missus loves em, might have to take her out for a special lunch at the weekend to Dom Road.

    Thanks matey

Pie number 11 since start of thread. Eves pantry steak pie. Good. Must eat a vegeatable soon though or scurvy will set in. Fear it might be too late, dreaming of lard.

Eves do great deserts, but I don't think their pies are much better than average. It's a shame they use that processed cheese sauce as well, I stay away from those ones.

The dinky bakery at Shell triangle Mt Wellington does great Steak & Cheese, Steak & Curry, Pepper Steak, Steak Potato top and Mince Potato top pies. The B&E is ok. The chicken, as always, is questionable. Their pies are decent sized and cost less than $3 each.

Mt Richmond food bar, which does a whole range of things, has a better than average chilly beef pie, again for less than $3.

Avoid the pies at Commissariat Rd bakery on the cnr of Commissariat and Ruawai.

Greenwoods Cnr does a good B&E - no pissing around with those waste of time fillers like peas and carrots (ewww), just a no-nonsense Bacon and Egg pie. Full to the brim and a dash of pepper. Their sausage rolls have a much better quality sausage meat than most bakeries too (but that's another thread). Price is about $4 IIRC.
They did have a few other good ones there too, but I can't recall off hand any specifics.

Chur will check out the b&e

Eves pie was ok, but now you mention it i wasn't too impressed with the pastry but i thought that was probably due to pastry tolerance from 12 days on the P(ie).

Looking forward to the cream donut tho

Bloody hell. All this talk of pies got me into baking one last night. Got to eat it around midnight...(started baking about 11.00pm).

One of my customers gave me a huge container of blackberries and told me to "get the wife to bake you a blackberry pie!"

Being as how I don't have such a commodity (wife that is) I figured I had to bake it myself.

A visit to the super to get pastry - had to thaw it out first - and then into the kitchen. Eventually got it sorted and into the oven it went.

Once the pastry was nice and brown out it came.

Not the best pie I ever tasted to be honest...all that friggin work for an indifferent result!

I'll make me own pastry next time...
