Yeah I'm a builder and my van is in the Lichfield street carpark along with all my tools. It would be so easy to move the cordon 100metres up the road beyond the carpark entrance. There are no highrises near the carpark and the carpark appears to be fine but trying to ring the council and other authorities is hopeless as they don't have any information. I thought I had plenty of insurance with both my van and builders indemnity insurance but the insurance company want proof the van and tools are damaged before opening their wallets. Damn another decent sized earthquake just hit. Not as big as last nights but still enough to get the hairs on the neck sticking up.

This would be fine if i had insured it , but i hadn't.
As i hadn't had the chance to use it, so i was not insuring it till i got it back, ( no point insuring it while sitting around in pieces i thought ) this be very wrong now. i find out, I'm fucked if this happens . I kiss goodbye 18k.
i can’t upgrade the insurance it has to cover it fully now , as i rolled over another bikes 3rd party to it b4 i took it in the shop. There insurance will not cover it as it’s an act of god, not something in there control. act of nature.
I cant get it covered till its back in my possession (not sitting at shop) even though i can prove it not damaged (yet ) it was was worth a try

I'm sure this is not the only bike in this situation.
Are you able to get it out of the building? Meaning is there a way to wheel it outside?...if there is fuck the yellow sticker, i would go and get it...

Might be a tad difficult to ride it home when you're sitting in a cell though...

Sorry but I thought they were allowing people into yellow stickered buildings to retrieve personal items?
Is not your pride and joy (bike) a personal item?
    Perhaps I mis-read the report.

Well lucky for him there's no extra police or army down here manning the cordons eh, otherwise then it would be difficult....

the shops insurance will cover the bike don't worry about it. it'll work out ok in the end (considering the circumstances)
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Hands up if you were stopped at four cordons on the way into the CBD today!

I don't know how useless the average NZ Army soldier is, but one can assume that trying to evade bored grunts down here at the moment is probably folly.

I'd pay decent money to see them chase miloking down. Sure it'd only be 5 seconds of entertainment, but fuck it'd be funny.

The shops insurance should cover it fine. The whole insurance not covering act of god thing is completely false. One of those dumb ideas perpetuated by Hollywood that people think is true.

Most insurance policies cover loss in one of two ways, either by accidental loss unless specifically excluded, or by specified loss.

The first kind is the most common, it basically says you're covered for loss that is accidental to you (you didn't cause the loss on purpose) unless the policy specifically excludes the type of loss. Exclusions being things like acts of terrorism, loss occuring during breaking the law and stuff like that. An earthquake causing loss is accidental to the insured as they didn't cause it on purpose. So unless the shop has a very specific policy stating that quake loss isn't covered then you're golden.

The second kind of policy is the usual catastrophy cover; fire, flood theft & natural disaster are the usual things these policies cover. Very few policies exclude natural disaster loss.

Call the shop, ask them about their insurance cover, if they're not sure ask who their broker or underwriter (insurance co) is and call them directly to enquire.

(used to work in the insurance biz)
Stop showing up to the beating.

let's hope Imdying says your bike is fucked because he's wrong most of the time about most things, and when he said mine was gone for good that was the best news I'd heard all week.

Seriously, if your bike is in a yellow stickered building the odds are good you'll get it back sooner or later, and BMW would have full insurance, so even if it's fucked their insurance will pay out. It's a pain in the arse, but you'll get it out. DOn't whatever you do try and get it out yourself because the constabulary will have your nuts in a nano second.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

I said it was gone and to forget about, but only because it was bad taste for you to be worried about your precious little insured motorcycle that was right round the corner from a building that flattened 100 people. The reality is that I'm happy for you, and quite stoked that you got your bike back from what has been quite rightly described as 'munted' or a 'warzone'. But if that was to happen, it was always going to have happened in good time. Basically, your bike being trapped was a minor thing of little concern to anyone but yourself.
