Permanent boot waterproofing?

Hello all.

I have a pair of Forma GT2 boots. The original pair were replaced because of leaking and now the (well out of warranty) replacements, although only 5 months old have the same leak at the front

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy / apply a permanent coating to waterproof these? Some kind of PU urethane/rubber or some such??

2 pair boots with the same problem? Design or manufacturing error. Take 'em back and try a different model/brand.

O smear silicone sealant over them and see if that helps. Darned ugly but if you're determined that it might be worth a shot

As soon as you start applying coatings and stuff yourself, you'll void the warranty.

I have a pair of Gaerne boots that eventually developed a leak in the left boot where the sole joined the upper - probably as a result of gear changes I thought.

I ran a bead of Ados F2 (or Urethane Bond) around the join and the leak has been banished ever since. That's almost a year on since the fix.

Been riding in Alpinestar's waterproof touring boot for 2 years. And owned 2 pair of this boot so far (first pair got replaced after an off but Im pretty sure they are still waterproof -my brother uses them) and they are still waterproof and have seen some very wet days.

Yep, buy decent boots to start with. I have a 10 year old pair of Sidi's that are still waterproof (although the soles are pretty stuffed) and a newer pair of Alpine Stars. Haven't had wet feet in 10 years...

The only truly waterproof boots (apart from Red Bands) are those with Goretex liners. Anything else will eventually succumb to the persuasions of water.

Thanks for the replies guys. The thing is, at $450 I don't consider these to be cheapo boots and if they say they are waterproof then they should be... or don't say they are.

Also, I tried alpinestars but they are too narrow for my feet.

I'll give Colemans a ring and see what happens

I think you're quite right there, $450 is reasonably dear. My Alpine stars were $370 and totally waterproof (funnily enough 10 years ago my Sidi's were $400).

The best stuff I have come across to make the leather water proof is a kiwi made product called bone dry.

My leathers have survived a west coast rain. Highly recommend the stuff.

+1 for the Bone Dry surprised how good it is on boots, gloves and trou don't need to use much at all

FANTASTIC Kiwi Made product called Bone Dry is available from good New Zealand Bike Shops - the ones in the Northern OffShore Island have yet to get stock though.
Been to a Mainland Rally in the last couple of years? - you would have seen this stuff demonstrated - it just plain works. Simple, Clean, Cheap, AND IT WORKS !

Get a 400gm "Bikers Tub", that'll do all your gear and more - when the water eventually stops "beading" ( lets not forget you are literally sitting in a hurricane on your bike ) just put another coat on

Gloves / Jackets/ Trou / Boots/ shoes / oilskins ........ does it all, and you're supporting KIWIS

Update on the boot situation. Matt at Colemans has sorted out replacing them with a different boot (when they arrive).

I would like to say at this point that ALL my dealings with Colemans parts/spares dept have worked out well. Good staff with a decent customer service attitude

I reckon I'll invest in some of this Bone dry too... sounds like the stuff
