I have heard that smoking dope and drinking a couple of beers before riding is the cheapest performance improvement....it make riding a GN at 80kph feel like riding a GP bike around Philip island

Also check that you're not low on indicator fluid.

Yep. When I was selling my old NZ250 (one cylinder, two exhaust ports in the head) on TM some guy tried telling me it was a two-cylinder bike. I bet him the bike (i.e. bid the reserve price. Then, if he was right he could have it free, if he was wrong he had to pay), and he went away.

(Geez, I counted the spark plug. One. And had the factory service manual with pictures of the engine in bits. His argument (apart from two connections of exhaust to the head), "no way, that's too fast for single!".)

At 80kmh roughly what revs were you at? Shouldnt be any more than say 5000 in 5th. If so then your clutch is slipping.
    But go through the basics,

-Make sure your choke is off
-Clean airfilter -> replace if you need to
-Replace spark plug, don't even bother checking it
-Clean fuel filter element (it's in the tank)
    -Clean carb

    In that order.

One pipe for each exhaust valve, the engine is a single cylinder with a 4 valve head, 2 inlet valves and 2 exhaust valves.
