I'm stuck on restricted license for 3-6 months. My CBR250RR has no compression on two cylinders. What would you do??
Resurrect the dusty old CBR250RR
Buy a new 2008 CBR600RR
Buy an RGV250 & learn to fix stuff
Walk to work & stack $$$

Tho' I voted for resurrection, it depends on the cost. That may not be the cheapest option ... which is probably the biggest consideration.
It's not worth goign bigger until you have a full licence. Getting caught on a bigger bike may well cost you more time before you get a full licence, so sticking with 250 is best at present.

Run the CBR on 2 cylinders........ people love being stuck being stuck behind bikes that can't even keep up with scooters![]()
Ciao Marco
Burn its head off.

bout a grand to resurrect the honda
Couple of questions first. How long have you been riding for, both on road and off? Secondly, where are you going to buy a new 2008 bike?
riding for approximately ten years on and off. have ridden dirt bikes a little. owned an fxr150, a rg150, a rgv250 and the mc22 (which I have in the shed still with new tires, chain, sprockets etc just needs new engine).
by new honda cbr600rr 2008 I mean a low ks one. there is one in chch and one up north.
Sweet. My g/f has that exact bike, an 08 600RR, and it's a fantastic bike that is probably one of the more flexible sports 600's on market, and one of the lightest too! Without knowing your riding ability personally I'd hesitate to recommend anything for you, but assuming you know what you're doing on a bike my vote (depending on the maths) would be fix and sell the CBR250 and save your dollars up for the 600. Then you wouldn't need the RGV 'cos the 600 will weight fuck all more, have better suspension/brakes/ etc and about 50-60hp more.
I like spending heaps of money on broken bikes I cannot fix for myself, but the one armed guy has a good plan imo.
The winter is not much fun unless you really really trust your tires. Save up, sell off your junk and come the summer you will have saved enough loot to get the bike you really want. If you MUST have a bike through the winter, then get a cheap shitter but get something easy to sell.

"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."
WTB: Hyosung bikes or going or not.
for most of the ten years I rode around without plates, I have only ever been pulled over once for doing 110kph (good brakes on the mc22!). yes I know I should have my full by now I guess I got complacent thrashing 250's around and forgot about the time you have to spend on the restricted until you can get a full license (I only just got my restricted). I have a fondness of 2-strokes and am tempted to get an rgv250 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-318067115.htm that I plan on thrashing every weekend while also getting a cbr600rr later once I am on my full. it seems silly to throw money into the cbr250rr but I guess the $1500 I spend on a new engine/installation would keep it going for years to come whereas the rgv will siphone cash out of my wallet every 6 months. If I get the RGV it will be staying with me I'm not going to stack it like the one I had when I was 20
I think I will get the 600 and just take it easy for 3 months until I get my full. I just want to catch the end of summer! I should manage to keep it upright until I start pushing it. I have had three serious crashes on the road with one putting me in hospital so I'm aware of how unforgiving the road is but I am a much better rider than I was 5 years ago.
1.5k for a new engine - but whats actually wrong with the current one thats causing no compression? few parts and some hours of your time could save you buying a whole unknown engine or worse an aged 2-stroke 250 thats just going to drain cash when it needs a rebuild or goes bang on you as much fun as they are.
either way fix up the 250, those CBR's attract stupid money second hand - at least they did last I checked anyhow.
How do you manage zero compression on two cylinders, rings cant wear out on only two cylinders like that surely - so that leaves the gear driven highly touted bullet proof among the 250's top end, valves eat something or?
