Just arrived back from a stunning 7 day ride/fishing trip. The weather was very generous, even at the end when it was meant to pack up it stayed warm and dry. New tracks were ridden, new places explored, lots of fish seen, many were caught, and many new places scratched down for future trips. Here are a few photos…
Hitting the Molesworth on a perfect day, warm, sun shining, couldn't ask for better

The first fish of the trip spotted, no time to pull out the fly rod and gear up though, too many K's to be done on day 1 (12 1/2 hours to be exact)
Out through Blenheim heading to Karamea
Fading sun over the Buller
First fish of the trip, a nice 3 1/2 pound Brown Jack
Numerous spiders were out spinning their webs so on went a spider imitation fly pattern
Sure enough this wee brown had a nudge at the spider fly
Heading up the Karamea River track
Its some tough going rock hopping for hours on end, but the views up the Karamea River are totally worth it
A beautiful 4 pound Brown Jack that put up a great fight
The world renowned Karamea Nikau Palms
The end of the road, as far north on the West Coast you can go... without getting wet
Mokihinui River
Heading over to Denniston for the Denniston to New Creek track
The Mackley River was a breeze to cross, a little over axle height
Fly camping on the Mackley River
A bit of playing with the camera manual settings
I stopped in for an hour or so to watch some MX racing
Heading to Lake Hochstetter
Sun setting over Lake Hochstetter
An accidental photo taken by auto timer as I was releasing a fish, the early misty morning colours looked cool so thought I'd throw it up
Lady Lake, always picturesque
Three browns out feeding on the remarkably coloured Crooked
Lake Poerua
Heading home to Chch, back to work =(

nothing too flash, a Cannon SX130IS. For the price it is well endowed with features including reasonably adaptable full manual settings while still having a sound automatic feature so you can whip it out and quickly capture those moments when your mate just happens to have a spill right in front of you
