I've got a friend that just got the license too and he doesn't have any experience so as soon as i get mine we will be doing some rides much like you, it can be quite scary at the beginning but once you raise your awareness a few clicks and become comfortable with the bike you riding it all becomes so much fun!!!

and you know whats best??? you don't forget how to ride (i was so happy at the end of the BHS/training cuz after almost 10 years not riding i felt so comfortable on top of the bike)

    ohh how i missed it!

    cheers,
    Ricardo
Thanks Ricardo. Picked it up at a real bargain price too!!
I have spent a lot of time road cycling so that has defo heightened my awareness, ALWAYS get cut off, or given no room etc, and I was a very polite cyclist too. So that experience helps.
Yup is quite scary! It's mostly having to concentrate on bike coordination being a newbie as well as traffic that made me panic a few times, but will be sweet in no time
Glad you're back into it, I've fallen in love with it already

good on you for getting the bike! now i'm here...still need to get some equipment and most importantly the bike! i'm struggling so much trying to decide if i conform and get a 250cc or go for something like that: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...p?p=1130033737

matter of fact i might make a new post and ask around about police encounters... i bet there will be people that was riding a bigger bike on a restricted/learners license over here...

oh btw, there's a quite good post about tips on riding for new riders...that one: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/fo...urvival-Skills
informative with a bit of humor

People accumulate usable skills and gain experience by just riding around, on account that they aren't complete imbeciles.

So it depends on which riding skills they test.

IMO, there is only one critical skill, and that is being able to steer a motorcycle at open-road speeds around an obstacle, AFTER the rider has had a really bad fright. If you can do that - 90% of the battle is won. Unfortunately, people won't want to learn it because its a pain in the arse and they dont need it(sic), and it can't really be externally taught, AND it can't really be tested.
"I am a licenced motorcycle instructor, I agree with dangerousbastard, no point in repeating what he said."
"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

Talking Boooohoooo, got my bike today!

just rode it to auckland from Tirau this morning!!! no incidents apart from me being 1/2 deaf from the loud exhaust. the bike is more responsive than i first thought it would be, overall pretty satisfied with it.

so far i changed the oil and filter, removed the pack rack and that's all for now but got to get new tyres and do something about the noisy exhaust...
