The port will be a major problem for years now - not the working area but the town on the hills. I worked over there for years and what most don't know is that the main drains run down the center of the various valleys. They are large tunnels built in brick very early on in the piece and then filled over and BUILT OVER.
Periodically in the last 50 or so years enough bricks have fallen in to cause a blockage after which that particular spot becomes a crater with sometimes a house sitting in it....
Gawd only knows what the drains are like now - this winter could see a hell of a lot of hillside disappear and a lot of houses with it.

Now if he'd quantify the length of the cycle period and the pressure value required to overcome the resistance we'd be sweet.....

Then again, on reflection, doesn't this formula apply to politics too ?

Spent four days in Rotorua a few years back. I didn't appreciate the god-awful smells that wafted around until I realised that I could drop silent farts and everyone blamed the ground.

I thought it sounded like someone literally talking about shite (not just spouting it) when I read it online this morning too...some of these technical stories make me yearn for the piss-take days of Harry Enfield and his classic "and now lets see how high a monkey jumps with his testicles wired to electrodes" sketch. Too much PR, don't seem like much science?!
He who shall go stately at the back and not stress out.
So Gareth what was it you said about MaxF's "Funky ass curves"? - God, now I'm worried...

In less than 2 weeks I start a new life in Marlborough

The earthquakes have been a devastating time on a personal, emotional & physical level for me & Im just so relieved that I have been able to move on.
Exciting & just a little scarey at the same time

I will walk away from my severly damaged house with no idea what the outcome for it will be....

Leave my third world suburb, with empty houses, moss growing in the liquifaction, partially demolished buildings, the portaloo & the 10kph speed restriction outside my house.....

    Leave my liquifaction damaged garden...

wait for the $10k+ for contents & emergency repairs & the $100k(over EQCs cap) from EQC...

Leave behind my Tuono cause its earthquake damage not sorted yet....

I simply cant wait to leave !!!

All the best HOT, having spent a lot of time up there I can asure it is a very nice place from Rarangi to Ngakuta bays.
Is meagan staying in your place as a minder? If she needs help jsust ask (IIRC her BF is a chippy anyway)
As far as the bike is concerned, you should consider taking it, awesome riding and Im sure a Blenhiem bike shop could have it repaired sooner than the waiting list down here.
Like half a Chch, I will miss ya, and the parties, and the rides... enjoy
    cheers DD

Sounds like you've just missed another decent aftershock. Other MB's are claiming above 5.

from Geonet: Magnitude 5.5, Monday, June 6 2011 at 9:09 am (NZST), 20 km south-west of Christchurch.
