    Answer me this...

Today I took the mighty FXR for a warrant (which it passed) but something made me laugh and the tester didn't agree with me....

During the brake test the tester wanted me to ride at 5kph and lock up the back brake to cause a skid. I couldn't do it, I could come to a full stop but not skid. He wanted to see a skid (of course I laughed!)

Am I retarded, can this be done cause I really don't think it can. I have the day off work today and am tempted to try up and down our driveway.

Should be able to lock up the rear wheel no problems. Just jump on the pedal real hard, if it won't play get your chief mechanic to change the brake fluid.

Tell him to pay for a new tyre, then you can show him some skids.Sounds like a bit of a plonker.

Could stop completely by doing that - but the tester wanted to see skids! No skids.

Give it a hard squeeze and you will undoubtedly leave skidmarks.

Ah, just edited my first post. He wanted me to do a 'skid' (his words) not lock it up (they were my words).

    Skidmark was/is a dick.

I've never heard of a WOF tester asking for skids though They usually ride the bike out the back of VTNZ and give it a handful of brakes at 30k or so, I'm always worried someone will lock up and drop my baby.

Yeah, I use the VTNZ in Upper Hutt usually and I always have to do my own brake test and lift the bike so they can check the front and back wheel. Went to Seaview today and the same thing except he only wanted me to go for literally 3-5 metres during the test and to stop, in his words; "with a skid".

    Go the mighty FXR.

That really isn't a proper test is it? Quite odd. To my knowledge they're meant to do a 30-0 in 7m test or something to that effect.
My brakes are mighty so I have no problem anyway

Agreed. It is a stupid test. The responsiveness of the rear brake doesn't need to go that far. If a rider locks up on a ride, they are sliding, which means not stopping as fast as they could.

Prorider do a very good brake responsiveness test on their level 1 courses. How to push the brakes to mtheir respective and combined limits and how to deal with going beyond the rear brake limit.

I found the ABS on mine incredibly strong. My previous bikes could all emergency brake well, but the new one is even better!

And we all know 90% of riders are not prepared for a slide....the rear is okay, but, how many can comfortably lock up and slide the front without going slat....
    I think ABS is brilliant

Tell him it has ABS or some other 3 letter abbreviation...

Tell him you have PMS and cant do skids...

Or - try standing on the pegs and hit the rear really hard then sue him once you fall off...

Sounds like the horrible little man has a fetish or two. Don't go back there. He'll have a camera next time you do, mark my words.

If any hydrolic disc based rear brake isn't capable of lock up I'd suspect it was in need of servicing.

Is the rear brake on an FXR hydrolic disc based?

.... back in green and feeling great ....
