you will need more than just 'Im a big person' If you any real chance of it, you need to tell them what bike, and provide details of it, and provide legitimate reasons why you NEED it. if you were a tall bugger with back problems, and riding the small 250's bent you over in a manner that was realy bad for you AND YOU HAD A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE to confirm it, you MIGHT get one.

Saying you are tall, and or heavy is not a good enough reason. Im over 6ft, and I have managed on cbr/fzr 25s without a problem, and theyre pretty damned small.

And choose yo9u bike carefully, for example if you are asking to ride something like a gsxr 600/750, vfr 800 etc, youll be told to fuck off.

You need a real reason to get a dispensation. My husband rides a 1380cc Fury on a learners because when he came over here from Aussie, his bike license was not included when changed over. It was an error made here by the licensing people.
The compromise was that he would re-sit the tests but have a dispensation to ride a big bike as he has over 40 years riding experience and was an Aussie motorbike license holder for 30 years.

Hey Craig, I have replied to your message.
As Maha said I did get my exemption to ride an 800cc cruiser bike for my learners and restricted. but as a lot of others have advised you need to have real reason to ask for the exemption but if you feel you need to to be safe on the road just ask.

    Cheers

and what was the reason you didn't get a licence in the day they were practically giving them away...?
