I've never smoked although my dad smoked pretty much all his life. The thing about smoking is that non-smokers inhale the smell and byproducts whether they want to or not. Yes, there are times I've felt a bit sorry for smokers being herded off into certain areas or "smoking rooms" or just "outside" when they want a puff, especially when the weather means that outdoors is not a pleasant option. But on the other hand I don't want to be forced to breathe in their ciggie either.
Smokers often forget that what they find pleasant or enjoyable is downright irritating (literally, to the lungs and nose) and sometimes very unpleasant to non-smokers who are forced (by proximity) to sniff up their stink.

Completely agree. Making smokers partake that filthy habit in an area not affecting others is All good.

Banning ciggaretes because they are 'bad', as someone else recommended, is not ok.
    Two seperate issues......

What a bunch of nay saying wowsers.... I'm surprised there is anything left that is legal with attitudes like this.... "Oh as as long as it doesn't affect me. and I find it the least bit irritating that others do it, yeah we should ban it" It is a democracy after all, if the majority don't do somthing, fuck the minority, they should have no rights at all! Divide and rule eh.... so long as a group is a minority who cares if we take away their rights!

Only problem with that is that attitude is that pretty soon everything will be banned (including motor bikes), won't the world be a grey place then.

Sheesh talk about the tyranny of the majority. As minority road users you'ld think you lot would be a bit more sympathetic to other minority groups!

For most people who've been around for a while it already is.

My great grandad once told me something similar, as told by his great grandad.....dating back to the 1800's.

This may have less to do with the changing world, than....

    I have a feeling

Hate it when any group thinks about removing Individuals Free Choice, drives me nuts. But especially sad to hear BIKERS condoning it - remember once hearing that bikers were about freedom of choice - choosing to do things perhaps slightly unordinary - and encouraging joe bloggs to simply accept others for what they are. Live and Let Live, I guess.

yeah? Well I find fucking lynx deodorant ratherrr unpleasant (wot wot).

I don't mind smoking outside, but I do mind people trying to ban smoking outside. do these people realise how much outside there actually is? google research suggests: lots.

Same thing as walking down the street and catching a whiff of snazzy mcsnazzshoes jock boy wearing his Armani. It's repulsive but you deal with it.

Yes, it is not a hard and fast rule. My parents both smoked like chimneys and not one of we 4 kids have ever taken it up.

I have hellish memories of car trips, especially in winter. I would just crack the window open a little and stick my nostrils there for some air. Soon enough one of the grownups would make me close the window because "I was letting all the heat out" GAHH!! I feel ill remembering...

Watching tv at night I would lie as flat as I could on the floor to get below the haze of smoke hanging in the room. I am not exaggerating this at all.

The most amazing revelation came when I returned home for a visit after my first 3 months at uni. My first 3 months away from home. I was so glad to see my old pussycat when he came to the front door to greet me. I picked him up for a cuddle. And OMG the poor cat STUNK of ciggy smoke.

And so must have I for the first 17 years of my life.

Yeah I remember walking into the lounge at home around sunset and the sun would strike the layer of cigarette smoke that was about chest height and made it look like a morning fog on the river... beautiful
