Nothing wrong with scooters, they are still motorcyles to me.

Out of the 19 bikes I have owned over 35 yrs, from 50 to 1100cc, the Honda C50 was one I had alot of fun on, certainly got a better look at the scenery.

No, I didn't ride the 50 on a car license, sat car license at age 49, yeah that's right, was a full time biker.

The old fella who died, might have owned bikes that todays riders would not have been able to start, let alone ride. RIP

Or he may have been riding a Chinese scooter which he couldn't name on a car license when he was mentally and physically unfit to drive.

He certainly counts as a motorcyclist to me, and unlike most of the blowhards on KB he was still motorcycling at 83 years of age.

I hope to be doing the same.

He deserves a guard of honour from bikers, not a "who cares" its only a scooter thread.

    But thats KB.

    Good post.
Man, If I can still walk at 83, im going to be happy. If I can balance on two wheels - im gona be farken Stoked. Scooter or whatever....its motorised and its not a car. - one of 'us' was killed on the roads today, and a family is in mourning.

    RIP Rider.

Yep, I also feel for the poor old bugger's friends and family. He may have been a very fit and active 83 year old, but someone should have been helping him avoid making such hazardous journeys. He probably did the same journey regularly.

I am sure that the original post would not have been as damning if it was known that the old duffer was going to snuff it.

    RIP

which is what happens when public transport in many parts of NZ is almost a non option alternative.

its a proven medical fact when old folk lose their independence to get about they go downhill and die.Thats why doctors are reluctant to take away the car/bike/scooter keys.

dont laugh, cos one day it will be you.

Why not? because he crashed and died? do you apply that reasoning to every motorcycles who crashes and dies in a similar manner?

It was a fucking scooter!!! and obviously the usual sort of retard that rides them... if he can't see a cop car with full flashing lights, he kinda got what he deserved.

Hope NO ONE calls you a RETARD when you crash and DIE after making a MISTAKE no matter how dumb that mistake may be

    Poor old bugger!

I witnessed a similar accident outside work, though it involved a parked flatdeck truck and a GL145 (does that count as a motorcycle?).

Young fella came around the bend looking directly to his left and then slammed into the R/R corner of the flatdeck. It looked as if he'd cleared the rest of the truck, as he flew through the air and landing on the road.

Although he'd fucked up, I couldn't help but feel for him as he lay on the road moaning and with his leg pointing at a weird angle.

I still cringe when I see a similar vehicle parked in that spot.

Wow! Do you know this old fella? Or are you just making a shed load of assumptions?
Not every 80 year old is mentally and physicaly deficient.
My father in law (who is in his 80's) still competitively skis and beats the pants off many in their 20's.
We don't know why he hit the cop car, he may have had a heart attack/stroke/TIA or a momentary lapse of concentration.
You, sir, are an arse. I sincerely hope you never live to a ripe old age!

well said. Add to the list of possible medical causes a whole raft of possible physical ones like the yellow lines, possible light conditions etc (refer to owl's post above for an example) and the comments made be people that knew and tried to save him and Sable's troll is just uncouth and rude.
