Riff raff and I would love to get out for a ride together but the little ones simply don't allow it. Lack of bikes owned by us in the garage is a hinderence as well but Sue will quite often climb on a bike I bring home if it appeals in some way. Funny as fuck when she almost dislocated a hip trying to get on the WR250R

I remember those days well. I actually get a bit offended if I am painted with a BAB tag. There were always bikes around, just not lovely raod type ones. We did have a bike at home, but 3 under 5 and a 6 day a week business certainly curtails the riding time. We used to pick our moments and get Nana and Poppa to come up for a weekend, so we could piss off to the battle of the streets in Paeroa.

I don't ride as far or as often as I used to, but it is an enjoyable change of pace with my girl on the back.

At this stage, she has more riding gear than me now!

Normal service should be resumed in a couple of years when the little people are old enough to send away to grandparents, etc.

I have had many a friends tell me to meet men outside of motorbiking. But if I did so, then how would one ever understand when I want to bugga off for a day on my bike on my own. Or head off down country on a solo road trip as I so very much love doing?

Never discount anything KP. I was a retired rider from a failed marriage. I took my helmet and boots, and gloves and jacket with me, and took the taunts that I would never ride again when it was over. I had no plans to buy a bike, but kept my options open with holding onto my gear.

I met a man, that had never ridden a bike before. He loved watching the racing, but that was about it. I was a bit relieved I am ashamed to say, no bike models, magazines and shit cluttering up the place. One trip to Rarotonga and it was all over rover And the rest as they say is history. Non riders are just a blank canvas to enjoy and encourage

Some time ago, I had no work on a friday, Anne was doing nothing as well.
It was a stunning day so I suggested we gear up and spend the day up north.
Coffee and cake at Ruawai, through the Waipua tree area, stopped at Omapere lookout, lunch at Opononi, across to Kaikohe and down twin bridges..an absolute brilliant day.
Just to able to do something spontaneous like that does wonders for your well being.

Question is...If your other half also rides, do you ride together when time allows? if so, do you also enjoy the time spent with your significant other while doing so?

Yes I love being pillon with my partner. I also like to ride on my own bike. For local rides I am happy riding solo but for longer rides I like 2 up

Yes we do ride together, when time allows. And yes, I do enjoy the time spent together riding.

Yep, normajeane and I rarely go on rides (of more than a km or two) without each other.

Having said that it's hard to 'enjoy' the time since you're focussed on riding and can't communicate...

Interesting point - but Mutley and I look at it a bit differently.

For us, riding together is a joyful experience we can share without verbal communication. We can enjoy the knowledge that the other is thrilling about swooping through the twisties, or enjoying that naughty high-speed fang along the straight. At the same time, each can often withdraw to their own private space, without interuption with idle chatter.

Picking up on each other's body language is part of the shared experience. From the obvious thumbs-up or head-shake, to the less obvious physical cues, we can learn a lot from the process.

When riding two-up, a small wriggle or pat or squeeze can say things better than any words can.

Sure, miscommunications and misunderstandings abound. From that point of view we've explored the options for radio comms - but we're aware that some subtleties will be lost forever by their inclusion.

I wish she would get on...so to speak.....but she has an ingrained fear of bikes from a life of parents telling her that bike=death. Absolutly fearful. She has got on a couple of times, 50kmh screaming, punches in ribs when cornering. It just sucks the joy out of it. On a single seater now....

I think she misses out on some awesome entertainment, beautiful scenery and fun times. She also missed out on falling off when I wrote it off in May......maybe she does have a point....

I'm one of the lucky ones. Only ever dated one girl. We met at school and were friends for five years before we got hitched. In those years of "just friends" we both, indpendantly, got into bikes. At University there were three of us that regularly took off on lecture-less afternoons to explore the highways and byways of Auckland. Back then there was virtually no traffic to contend with.

We had a car for about a decade but when that packed up with age it wasn't replaced and now we find ourselves once again with plenty of space in our garage with only the two bikes and a couple of seldomm used sea kayaks.

I enjoy riding with my partner and I enjoy riding by myself. Now that she has her own bike its much better for both of us as the numb ass multiple stops on trips is no more and although we are together we can still do our own thing.

We spend a lot of time together on one or other bike. Usually we enjoy it as we still quite like each others company even after all this time. In the last few years, whenever we see another couple (usually with a bike a piece these days) we try and avoid them if possible and if its a group of women we drop what we are doing and get out fast before we get another lecture about Vicki not having her own bike etc etc. I was even told I was a sexist pig once (possibly true - not sure)

Oh, and when normajeane started riding her own bike we got a lot of surprised comments like "Oh, so you ride?" - mostly followed by "Lucky you!"
