I know what you're saying: my re-interest in road riding sort of rekindled when I discovered track days: I just dont go hard on the road anymore, and am a much more relaxed and happy rider because of it.

So I've been riding for nearly 10 years now. I've written off 3 bikes (4, but technically the guy who stole my bike wrote it off one of the times). Twice was my fault, once was another biker who kindly took me out in a roundabout because he "didn't see me". Plus numerous crashes that resulted in minor damage.

Definitely sounds like your making the right move.

I've had that, then I get a dirt bike and start missing road bikes and visa versa. I resolved all this by always having both now.

I switch between the two whenever it suits, sometimes own both or just one, Don't think I've ever been melodramatic enough to mourn my inner biker...

Yep, after losing my license I dropped the sportsbikes, have an adventure bike which spends most of it's time on the road, but I can explore gravel whenever I want.
