Tie down points: I need a litte help please

Morning men

We are wanting to use 50 mm wide straps for our luggage setup and I need to get some tie down loops.

Looking to get something that a 50 mm strap will go through, so something similar in size to a seat belt, wanting buy something to bolt/screw through the cases as I can't weld them on (To plastic).

Any of you fullas know where I can buy a some off the shelf items, they need to be just a D loop sorta thing similar to the ones on the Zega gear.

Have a look at cabinet door handles (Bunnings is good for that kind of stuff) Some of the metal ones I've seen would work pretty well & look good too. The small ones have about 65mm screw centres so would be the perfect size for a 50mm strap.

Bunnings do have some junky ones you'll want to steer clear of, but I got these stainless steel handles at Bunnings for around $6 each. I used shorter 4M bolts to suit the shallow pannier lid depth and they have lasted over 18 months so far and no issues

+1 on the D handles for best looking. You might want to use large washers on the underside of your lids to spread the loading... especially if your using plastic panniers!

Yeap thought about that, will get some panel washers to spread the load although the cases are about 6 mm thick ABS so pretty tough.

Stress cracks will probably be ya main concern......I also drilled slightly oversized bolt holes on mine, just to make sure the plastic wasn't stressed. also gave them a good blob of silicone when fitting to help keep the H2O out. but sounds like you got it under control

Any good advice/reminders is good, agree about not stressing things and I am armed and dangerous with the RTV.

I think I will place a panel washer on both sides to spread the load, could go a long way to making things last the distance.

+1 re above. The handles themselves only offer a small surface area to the plastic so panel washers both sides of the plastic sounds like a good idea.

they are actually called penny washers
6mm abs is pretty strong!!!

Bought some handles on tardme, hopefully do the trick, 8mm solid, 75 mm long, just hope they are not muckmetal, dude says they have magnetic attraction which would suggest they may be mild steel.

They are perfect for 50 mm wide straps, come with screws and will work a treat, great price at $1.00 each so anyone looking for tie down points I can recommend these.
