Well im happy to say.......... yet another highly successful winter series round at Levels yesterday.
Although it was touch n go for one race when a thick fog bank blew in.... the rest of the day was cold but sunny.
Another healthy entry list and all classes well represented......... i had the pleasure of being P6 flaggie and recovery driver for the day ( the right hander before hairpin claimed 9 victims from cold tyres!!!!!!!) but no injuries to persons...... however a certain GSXR1000 looked very secondhand.
Highlights.......
Streetstock/buckets/prolite........ 43 on the grid...yes 43. A few older riders and a few riders of larger bikes had decided to use this class as extra seat time ........ oh and what great decision for the spectators.
Johnny Small(prolite) - Al & James Hoogie(buckets) - John Ross(streetstock) - Larry Ross(streetstock) - and the grandaddy of streetstock Pete Jones ..... this was the leading pack - you could have thrown a blanket over them for most of the races.
Best battle of the day was johnny Small and John Ross they were litrally locked together and some of the moves were beyond belief.... John Ross even tried the infield on a couple of occasions after JS closed the door.
Also in the mix for some of the time were young hopefuls Blake Henwood-Sparks and Glen Agate... both finding it hard to maintain the pace of the seasoned veterans for whole race distance but showing that they have what it takes.
1000/600 class. Although you North Islanders might have the monopoly on Superbike....... the south island IS 600 country.
Dennis Charlett - Al & James Hoogie - Johnny Small - Jake Lewis - Tim McArthur - Cam Jones and theres still more to come..!
Again the battles between them were epic. Races saw Jake Lewis and Tim McArthur in heated battles with Jake showing what he had learnt about "close racing" at Silverstone. Johnny Small with his trademark first lap holeshots... although his bike is bog stock. (im sure shaun has a motor waiting..... haha) Al Hoogie showing Dennis Charlett that he wants to be his successor.
There were many many more tales.................
If this is what winter series racing turns out then the next Nats are gonna be "off the chain"
We've been very lucky so far, hopefully rd 3 will be the same
A certain bucket rider who frequents this forum was one of them and that was only the warm up lap
Cam Jones was hanging onto the back of the seven bike lead pack on a Bucket as well in the one I watched
Yeah............. i believe P Jones was a victim on a warm up lapand how many times has he told juniors to take it easy.......... was it you Pete!
And yes u are quite correct Cam Jones was in the mix too.
OH oh oh and i forgot there were sidecars tooplaying at "throwing the swinger" i believe.................. oh an heres one for irony.......... a certain black chair was spoken to by officials in regards to exceeding the db limit.......... who might that have been

I really like Johnny Small, I can see some big potential in that dude.
What was he riding to be dicing out with John?
Actually Pete did that right in front of me down there years ago on a warmup lap but this time it was someone who will remain nameless Buddha#81
oh crap did I type that out loud
Yeah that was awesome because he did it right in front of us in turn one so we got an excellent view, my first thought was "that'll be a slab of piss" oh yeah I wonder if he's ok
Could have been a certain exhaust pipe designer![]()
Blindspott are back as Blacklist check them out

Yeah, I know that guy who binned it on the warmup lap. He muttered something about wanting get "crashing on warmup lap" and "lose front on righthander before hairpin" off his "must do list" Pretty happy to get both done in one go, now that's class...
Having just won a race race he suffered the curse as well:
"Pride comes before a fall"
I was right behind Johnny Small and John Ross when they started their demolition derby antics. It was Johnny really, John was just trying to resist the riding that I can only describe as dangerous and dirty. For my own safety I had to back off to avoid the inevitable carnage, and it did come.
"What's happened to Winter Series?"
I missed the first round and I was told it was fantastic, so made it a "must" for round 2
Absolutely top meeting. Great weather. Heaps of classes and everyone got heaps of close, fun, safe racing in big feilds.
125GP, F3, Streetstock, prolite, buckets, sidecars and motards. F1/F2.And then training for newcomers and 10 -12 year olds.
Great atmosphere in the pits. BBQ's going and plenty of families enjoying social time. Lots of people moving around helping each other out.
Ex and current champions rolling up their sleeves to help the young elite go forward.
I met a 9 year old just busting to get out there when he turns 10.
A huge number of Training, Streetstock graduates still teenagers but now with a ton of experience and moving up into 600's, pro twin and 125GP. And these kids don't just have local ambitions, they plan to do Nationals (and beyond!)
Could a Winter Series get any better!
