    The timing chains.

They are about 8 miles long and caused quite a few problems because of that.

Yeah, didn't work too well for Jaguar though. As I understand it, the cylinder liners on some of those XJ8s were eaten away by some petrol additives. Jag replaced many motors under warranty, but many lesser affected cars became liabilities for success owners.

Nicasil and Alusil are both very, very old.

'34 Hudsons had Alusil pistons. Hudson did some very advanced cars, I love them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hu...Coupe_1934.jpg They got the year wrong on this, unless it's had a '35 grill fitted.

All this discussion about classic cars from our nostalgic past (sorry, not you, Indi...), is great fun. All the talk of ripping out motors and dropping in V8s is a great trip down memory lane.

But would you do it now? If you picked up a mint factory Triumph 2500TC tomorrow, would you "hot it up" like you did back in the day? Or keep it - and drive it - as it was built (warts 'n all)?

Let's face it, if it's speed and handling you want, most modern shit boxes will piss all over our nostalgia trips. I've got a late model (BF) Falcon, it would wipe the floor with most old V8s, particularly handling-wise. But as much as I love it, it's got no character - it's "just a car".

For me, buying a classic car from my youth means slowing down. Perhaps digging out my dad's old flat-cap (lol), and becoming one of those dreaded Sunday Drivers...

I'll still stick an 8 in anything. I don't care if the flatmates 300ZX or Soarer V8 will destroy something with a Rover 8 in it, I'll have a car I like, making noises I want on a reasonable budget

It's funny because a BF Falcon is by no means fast or good handling. An E39 BMW 5 series Msport will run rings around one all day and is still of higher quality build, ride quality, brakes....gruniter....

But, a Morrie with tube front chassis and a 3.5 V8 still gives me a massive horn

Okay, you can wear your flat-cap backwards then...

(Or is it sideways now? I can't keep up...)

lol I think DL is younger then me

But I'm with you mate, I have a tweed jacket from my MG days and will dust it out for whatever comes next, Wolseley or Triumph I'm thinking lol

Got a cheese cutter somewhere too I think.

I'd be keeping my car stock if it came that way

    I'm a mighty 22 years young

    I prefer original classics.

Or anything original looking with a dirty 8 cyl...

I want a clean original Morrie coupe with roof racks and white tyre stripes That'll suit me for a daily driver.

Or an MGB with chrome bumpers and either minilites or wires.
