I must add, that although not the BEST sounding motorcycle.... the 1000cc Desmo GP bike was the most insane sounding motorcycle I've ever heard. OK picture this, QP for Laguna Seca the first year back to the US for MotoGP (the race Nicky won) I am standing on the pedestrian bridge and the bikes are passing directly below at close to 300kph. They are LOUD!!!! The Ducati was very unique and I took out my earplugs and just stood there in awe. I couldn't see the bikes, because the bridge was covered, but the SOUND.... holly cow, the sound was insane!!!!

Not the best sounding bike, but what an experience!

Worst sounding bike........... standing next to a mobile dyno with an open piped z1000 on full noise in top gear....... when it dropped a valve... the owner took a few seconds to clutch it....... then the unbraked dyno began to slow.... but as the guys clutch was dragging slightly and hot it started to engage again.... now too hot to knock it out of gear and the noise was "mechanically painful"
One valve came out the exhaust and embedded itself in a ford transit on the other side of the carpark..... and various bits of cylinder head / valves etc eventaully flew out the exhaust onto the tarmac........ took about 2 mins for the dyno to slow enough to apply the final brake.
    Oh happy days

There are lots of good-sounding 4 stroke (diesel) road-racers (staring with 60's Honda, MV and Gilera multis), though a pukka 70's GP 2 stroke gets my vote..try a barely-silenced RG500 (not a road bike) or TZ four...
What the fuck has where a bikes ridden got to do with what it sounds likeWill give you points for the 60s Honda though.
