Aha! You get a Jag because you're going to be 50? I think, for research purposes you need it to try on the current drive way. If it does scrape, I (being of kind heart and stuff) will take it home and it can play with the Kawasaki and MR2 in my garage I have a very flat driveway so there's no risk of your Jag getting scraped.

Some golden rules of mine for house buying:

    1. Drive must be as flat and as straight as possible ('cos some of my cars are bloody low)
    2. Drive must not lead directly out onto busy road (Duh!)
    3. House must be as maintenance-free as possible (don't want to waste riding/driving/tinkering time, do we?
    4. Section must not be (a) step or (b) in a gully. (Don't want to risk another Abbotsford)
    5. Nowhere near the sea (salt air and cars/bikes)
    6. Not down on some flat flood-prone area.

Follow the above and be happiness-blessed.

Hmmmm... While not fitting too well with these criteria, we do have a large internal access double garage which can fit two cars and a motorbike, and total off-street parking can fit nine vehicles. We looked at downsizing but finding a smaller home with a big internal access garage and off-street parking for at least two vehicles is virtually impossible here!

You may have better results in your area, but as we do have a nice house in a nice area and can't be built out and the upstairs flat is very handy, we've decided to stay where we are. The weekend emphasised the need for lots of space when the family plus friends all come for a BBQ...

I think you guys are all missing the point here!!!!!

My wife has humoured me to the degree of telling me I can have just what I want, however in a demeaning and ageist manner.

AND at the same time she has managed get me to say, "now’s not the right time for a Jag."

I just find it hard to understand why I had failed to realise the steep drive access from the road would be a problem and it took my wife to point this out to me (without attempting to deny me what I wanted to buy).

We have a great garage. Room for 2 full sized cars and 2 bikes, plus a little workshop.

I feel like I have been screwed by myself!

I just never relaised I was such a ShagNasty

    Lol. Okay, my turn:

"Hey, you know that XJ8 I was drooling over? I posted a link on KB, and YellowDog was really keen on it too."

    "Yeah?"

"Yeah. He's found a good one in Auckland though - if it checks out okay he's going to get it - he's got the blessings of his other half."

    "Are you dropping hints again?"

"...Not really, still dreaming and scheming I suppose..."

"You've been promising me a new car for three years, in that time you've got yourself a new car, updated both work vehicles for the employees, and I'm still stuck in a scruffy old 1995 Bluebird."

With a grin, I give the perfect response - "Tell you what, I'll get the Jag, you can have my nice shiny Falcon."

"I don't want your Ford Falcon, I want a hatchback."

    Damn...

"Ah, okay, I could sell the Falcon, eh? I can't afford that and the Jag, particularly with all the work fleet to maintain."

"So you would effectively be using the Jag for work? Have you given any thought to how it would look to clients, particularly as you're putting prices up across the board? How would you get on going to site meetings at construction sites?"

"I could borrow your hatchbatch, I suppose..."

    The conversation ended there...

    Well yes, fair comment.

But she just got lucky and it was just a one off.

I hope it was a one off and she isn't really smarter than she has been making out to be for the past six years

Trust me, they're all smart. Luckily I don't have one. Unfortunately I have no money to throw at silly cars and bikes. Should be back on track in a few weeks I hope.
