I'm in to that idea. A Toledo would be even sillier though

And when they tried to go around a corner... Too much weight from that really heavy motor, too far forward! Fabulous for doing burnouts, though...

We had a 1980 Marina, the last of the model with the 1700 Alloy head motor and it was a nice car to travel in, very comfortable, torquey and economical, lots of room.

Hey, I had the same model. In 1981 I bought a 1979 Marina 1700, which was the last shape just before the ITAL, being a slightly modded Marina. It was the newest car I had ever owned and I was stoked with it.

Good engine (for a 1700). I advanced the timing and put a larger pipe and free flow air filter on mine. Unfortunately I didn't have enough cash to uprate the brakes or shocks. It didn't corner very well at all But it was a good car

If I knew she wanted to come, I would have invited her instead of you

No I didn't go. My missus is happy for me to get a Jag, as she believes that I am now old enough to carry off the image thing, but we both agree that our drive won't take a Jag. It looks like we are now moving house to a place with a Jag friendly drive. But having enough money for a Jag after the move is another story

I was always worried about the P6, it never leaked any oil. How the fuck does a British car retain oil? It was strange.
My P6B made up for it. Little issue with the rear main crankshaft seal. Great car though.

Its funny I had a chat with a "boffin" a while ago about this. He reckoned the Allegro was a fantastic car for the time and place.

Our one's shocks were still good, but they really benefitted from aftermarket. The originals were supposed to be twin arm but they fitted single arm instead and they wore prematurely. My brakes were very good as we found out one day when a kid ran out in front of us at an intersection...

I really liked the 1700 motor, I recall travelling up the old Albany hill one day and a 2lt Mk.3 Cortina couldn't pull away from us! No, it wasn't a sports car, it was a sedate family car but ours was in very good condition and we really liked it.

It just missed the mark I reckon, had the build quality been good then things might of been different. The styling wasn't bad, not out of place for the time (ignoring the 'wheel' lol), used a proven power plant from the ADO16, granted it should of been something a bit newer, but they used the A series engine till 2000!

Anyways should be lookin' at an ADO16 this weekend

Nope, don't intend to any time soon.

I'm not a fan of 'big' cars, anything over 2L is too big for me

It's alright, Indy, you're young still - one day you'll grow up to be an old fart like DL...
