I don't think I'm good enough to demand money for my photos but I do ask for an acknowledgement when used in a publication. I have scored a bottle of whisky (...sorry 'whiskey', it was Canadian Club) for doing some wedding photos though.

Copyright has been breached. Copyright exists even when it isn't stated. Just because something has been published doesn't make it fair game, as people who up until recently used to be able to voraciously devour bitstream torrent movies can attest.

At the very least the publishers owe you and their readers a big apology. I'd hit them up for a 10-year free subscription as well.

Its a damn good read that blog I'm not surprised it was used, but a little surprised no acknowledgement was included.

Thanks for the kind words Spearfish. Started it to fill in some time whilst I was around the house looking after my wife after hip surgery. Only thought it would have a few weeks' life, but it sort of got a life of its own

Had an email from the Editor of Motorcycle Trader this morning. He thinks that their image handler (whatever/whoever that is!) may have got my photo from Getty Images but will check. In any event, they're graciously providing a free subscription to their magazine and one of those flash carabiner-type combination helmet locks.

that wheel alignment rig is very clever. I am sure I have all the shit in my garage I need to build it. Our cat will be pissed when the laser pointer disappears though.

Cheers! Yeah, my laser was an old laser and biro combination which was mainly used for amusing the cats too

    Twits, twats or ?

On Radio NZ National News today, a complaint from Martin Devlin has been partially upheld against the NZ Herald. One of their sources in the story at issue was an unverifiable post on Twitter.

And they should be posting a note in an issue stating their stuff up, and that the source of the photo was you.

How the fuck do they get a photo you took, from a commercial enterprise that sells stock photos under various licenses? If that was the case, Getty Images or a user is stealin off photos and making cash off it.

At least you got something for though.

They did actually offer to state source in the next issue, which I declined.

If it was Getty Images at fault, it's a different matter, not that I'm going to do anything about it.

You should. Getty images price ranges go up to around $900 USD for one image, in a high resolution and size.

    Gidday Blackbird,

As you say it is no biggy them using the picture but they are using it for magazine for which they are getting monetary gain.

Like you I would wind them up for sport.

The least they should do when using pictures from other sources is acknowledge where they got it from and not from their own hard work.

I confess to know everything there is to know about absolutely nothing at all!!!
