Ninja 250 mod questions

So, I'm looking at doing some modifications to my 250R Ninja...and have a few questions I'd like to ask anyone who has done any of these themselves.

1. Rear Fender Eliminator - does this cause problems with spray? Like, am I gona have water sprayed up my back or something when riding in the wet?

2. Performance Muffler - Basically one that makes it sound cooler. Did you have any drop in fuel economy?

3. 150mm rear tire - Anyone done this? Did it affect power/economy?

No you won't have spray issues, if anything it will be the following traffic that could be affected by stones being thrown up etc, but you won't notice the difference yourself.

It sure will. Watch other bikes in the rain for some lulz.

But worse, it might throw a stone into your rear taillight (DAMHIK ), but I've never studied a 250R rearend enough to know if that's something you need to watch for. Some of that clear 3M protective film on the bottom of the light would probably negate that any way.

A "performance" exhaust does not make the 250 sound cool. Nothing can make the 250 sound cool! You might gain a HP or two but you will mostly sound like you are going faster rather than actually going faster.

Trust me there are a lot of 250s with crappy exhausts in Hamilton and they all sound like shit. Save the money for when you upgrade.

I think you should just give it an awesome paintjob that will really stun the crowds, get drawing, put your ideas to paper and start talking with artist, painters, graphic designers and what not.

Because if your idea of modding is for it too look good, then do that. Otherwise if your trying to make it faster i would not bother.

Otherwise turn it into a stunt bike. Have seen people on Ninjas go pretty hard. It kind of makes me want one in a way because they handle so well.

The fender chop is worth doing for sure. I did my own with a couple of cheap angle brackets from Mitre 10 and a hacksaw. I cut around the indicator brackets and left them alone. I made my own led tag light, but you are probably better off buying one from a bike shop.
I do notice that the pillion seat gets dirty from spray in the rain, but I've never noticed it up my back. I don't care anyway... The original fender was so damn ugly.

Re tires, don't go up to a 150. I changed out the Road Weiners which I absolutely hated for some Pirelli Sport Demons. Same front size, but a 140 on the back. This works awesome. The bike turns in so much easier with this front tire, and the back tire looks heaps wider without stuffing up performance. 130 is technically the correct size, but the 140 fits on the rim just fine and looks a lot better. Motohaus in Kingsland had the tires in stock and I think they cost about $360 fitted. The bike really just came alive with these tires... The feel is great and the wet grip so much better than the IRCs.

My bike came with a Tyga carbon exhaust can on it, and it is certainly loud. I think a Yoshimura might be quieter. But if you want to get any extra performance then you have to change the air filter and get the carbs re-jetted. Mine was already done, so I have no idea if it is any quicker or not. Theoretically the fuel economy should be better, as the airflow is less restricted.

I disagree. Got one for my VTR250 when I had it. Both looks and sound improved.

Ignore the hicks telling you its a bad idea,

I dont know what the Ninja's are like,
I had a 21 year old tug boat when I had my 250, I chopped the tail and didnt suffer any extra spray or anything like that, I recommend buying $3 stick on reflectors and putting them on the number plate though as you must have a reflector for a WOF

As for the muffler, I wouldnt bother been a 250, BUT you can get it debaffled which will make it louder and give it a little bit of a deeper growl, wont make much difference in your economy though, and its cheaper than getting a new muffler as you will need to remap/rejet your bike, depending if its carbed or injected, which is all $$

(this part im not too sure about, someone feel free to correct me)
as for the tyre, is that bigger than normal?
having a wider tyre on the back will make it turn on a knife point, it will be slow to lean over but once it reaches a point it will just go for it,
I would recommend just keeping the tyres as they are.

Don't start that again. And anyway, there can be only one fastest Ninja. So unless the OP gets silver rim tape as well his will still come in second.
