So what is the harm in putting a cheaper battery in besides the fact it won't have as many cranks in it without being charged up again?

Because it has a certain amount of cycles between 100%and 0%, including recharges.

Imagine it in damage levels.
blah blah, actually, I had a great big post penned out here but after reading it, it doesn't really make any sense and I certainly don't want my name to it for years to come.

Some smart bastard who knows how batteries actually work will be along soon to clarify.

You want exciting and battery technology in that same place hmm ok go outside, put a big wire from the positive terminal to the negative terminal and run like fuck, that will liven up the subject, oh and make sure the dam thing is charged first.

Nothing "wrong" per se... if a battery is rated for your bike it will work fine. The advantage with Shorai is power, battery life, weight, (extremely light, you'll notice the weight difference, even on a road bike), holding their charge and durability under load. If you add up the cost of two or three, (or four), other batteries, against the Shorai, they are far better value for money if you're planning on keeping the bike, or even if you do sell it, you can switch the Shorai to your new bike.

A lead/acid battery is old technology, VERY old. They work, but they're crap. Their discharge is quicker, their voltage is lower, they're shit. HOWEVER. A modern glassmat battery, will have a higher cranking ampage, sit longer and hold charge for longer. But there is a trade off.

Vehicles which require a constant voltage level while the ignition circuit is open will quite often "fault" when a glassmatt battery is added to the ignition, regardless of its CCA rating. A lead acid battery maintains a higher voltage while cranking than a glassmatt or dry battery. Some systems such as "ABS" on BMW's will "fault" while a dry battery cranks the engine, whereas a decent lead acid battery wont have the big voltage drop while cranking, therefore keeping auxillary systems "alive" while the engine turns over.

So assuming that the battery is equivalent to the battery i just took out of my bike it won't do any damage to my bike electrically?

To be honest i don't have the money to spend on a Shorai unfortunately.

Nup! Can't damage your bike's electrical system. They are designed as a drop-in replacement for any ordinary battery and work the same way.

The Shorai batteries. No battery rated for your bike should damage it in any way regardless of cost. Sorry I only sell Shorai, I'm the sole agent for them in NZ.
