Or are they just a fancy calculator?
I got a Taxi once with mobile eftpos and when we got to the address there was no coverage, I had no cash and the driver couldn't be bothered driving up the hill so I could pay him.
    FREE RIDE!
They must have. I was stopped the other day coming out of Dairy Flat BP on the northern motorway. Cop had a fancy hand held device that instantly brought up my licence details, bike ownership, demerits, previous addresses etc etc. No ticket printed for me tho it was just a general check. Technology is moving pretty fast, i know in the UK that the police cars have cameras that automatically check your number plate and can instantly see if you have no insurance, licence suspension, no tax, wof etc etc. Coming to NZ maybe??

Number plate recognition cameras are in (albeit limited) use here already.

The bottom section of the "voucher" is a remittance slip for paying your money over to the bank. It is perforated for easy tear-off. Gosh, we're so lucky that our convenience is taken into such consideration like that.

This'll have to wait for now. I've got ACC levies to pay this month

We get ours in December apparently. Have a 5 day training week to work out all the ins and outs. Ours come with more stuff than the basic Highway Patrol package. Bring them on I say as my writing is now a bit slow after last years crash.

Da new machines are da dogz bollix.

In terms of improvement, it means you'll be able to read your copy, instead of having to decipher it. Less mistakes will be made, though even this machine can't eliminate all mistakes. I put a wrong code in yesterday, and printed a seatbelt ticket for someone who had used a cellphone while driving. As it happens, easily fixed, so it was.

The big advantage for the dept is that as soon as the Popo has written his notes on the device, it is zapped via the ether to the Infringement Bureau. It's via the Telecom network.

At all times when coverage is available, the Popo can scan the barcode on your licence or vehicle registration label, and will be emailed details of the vehicle licence holder etc. Used to be done over a radio link, and for most part still is. Only the users of the SMART devices use them, around 680 or so are out there.

If the network isn't available, tickets can still be written, but no information transfer takes place. Until the device next connects to a network.

One day cops will attend domestics, burglaries etc and use an iPad or similar to document it. The report will be on the database as soon as he/she clicks AFFIRM. Paperless office? No, of course not, but far less so than now.

Funnily enough, the same old trend has continued. People who wear their seatbelts still don't get seatbelt tickets, cellphone tickets only go to people using cellphones while driving. Speeding tickets only seem to be issued to those exceeding a speed limit. Spooky. I'm wondering if there is a pattern. The only thing that has changed is how the tickets are written.

    Donuts.

I've had two pretty sizeable speeding tickets in years gone by that for some reason never made it through "the system" from the officers ticket book. Wether due to illegible handwriting or administrative cock-ups, I appreciated the result in both instances. I suppose the upside with all this new technology is that it's self funding.

    Cannabis.

I personally don't believe it's a "trend" ... even (alleged/claimed) intelligent people make dumb decisions ... for the sake of their own convenience ... or thrill ...

The lucky ... maybe ... stay lucky ... maybe ....

    Maybe NOT ...

If it's a trend or a pattern ... one may know for certain ... and/or ... predict the outcome ... (although the outcome IS pretty much often ... predictable)

    Sadly ... we cannot ...

    Oh for heavens sake.

Dangerous, unsafe and inconsiderate charges are dealt with in court, not via the infringement system, which the new SMART devices deal with. Lucky really, as my device would overheat if there was an instant fine for driving like a dick.

    Vodka, donuts and NOT cannabis.

    Sheesh.

Skoober, email me a copy of the bar code on your drivers licence. I'll scan it and save it in my favourites list. Tee hee.

Fold your ticket into a chess piece and it will stab the officer with a rainbow.

Must be why the NI PIGs never charge the "failing to keep left" "impeding the flow of traffic" & "failing to indicate/give way" etc, too much effort ay.

Vodka & Donuts... Sounds like a party to me

I'm sure one-day you might get to see the licence in person
