Marco Simoncelli. RIP

I didn't watch the GP last night but now I've just read the tragic news about Marco.
He was acknowledged as a bit of a lunatic rider amongst the young men who face the prospect of catastrophy each time they went to work, but no one would have expected this ... he seemed to be one of those guys that just never got hurt in his many crashes.

Having just been to PI last weekend I was lucky enough to observe many of the MotoGP riders while I was walking around the rear of the pit area.
Almost all of them walked very quickly from their resting rooms to their garages, heads down, trying to avoid eye contact with anyone and everyone, ignoring requests for autographs and so on.
The one rider that I saw that didn't was Marco.
He stopped and chatted, and had multiple photo's taken with all sorts of fans, signing all sorts of things .... to the point where one of his crew had to call out to him to hurry up .... final practise was starting !

Well, at least I had a tiny glimpse of what seemed to be a friendly and happy young man .... and now he's gone.

RIP Marco, you will be missed.

just read the news cant belive it such sad loss to the sport such a charcter i thought was awsome was

It's without doubt one of the most horrible and sad things I've seen in my time watching racing. For so many reasons.

a MASSIVE loss to the motorcycling world.
He got a lot of shit for crashing out heaps, but thats because he was pushing himself further than anyone else, had a massive desire to improve and acheive, and because of this he was one of, if not THE most exciting racers to watch on by far one of my favourites.
Someone I think was destined to win the championship in the next 5 years.

A horrible way to go, I just pray that he never regained consciousness, and that he passed away with his last conscious thought being the excitement of racing an awesome machine with his knee on the ground, battling with the best in the world.

Future champ, sad to see what happened. Racing was certainly not boring when Marco was on the track.

Terrible, horriblew news. I am still sad and upset from Tomizawa's crash and death last year. This will also stay with me for a very long time. 2 delightful, enthusiastic, hard core racers killed while racing, losing control and having other riders hit them. Perhaps De Angelis and Redding can spend some time with Edwards and Rossi...

Peace to Edwards and Rossi.... Not a thing you could do and we all know you would of if you could have.. Heart breaking.....

Agree. It is sad as fuck, rossi especially, who was quite close friends with simoncelli will be racked with horrible feelings, knowing it might have been the bike he was piloting that delivered the death blow. Totally unavoidable, freak accident to combine the slide with the tyre gripping and dragging the bike, ANSD rider back across the racing line AND the loss of the helmet.
Those two guys (Rossi and Crutchlow) are going to have some massive psychological demons to battle before they can get close to 100% again.
