I'll give Protecta a call tomorrow then to see if they can match the offers I've received and to check their cover.
Though, when Glen from Motorad checked them out for me in the store, he said I'd be looking at around $700 per year.
Just found out as well that the AA does not cover Helmets as a part of their contents cover, just jackets, boots etc. so that's a bummer.
+1 for Kiwibike Insurance as well.
I'm with Protecta through Kiwibike

-re protecta....
Iv never had any insurance through them so I cant say if theyr good or not, I guess you dont really know how good a company is until it comes to claim time.... Anyone feel free to counter this with a good claims experience tho! Just remember reading this awhile back so thoguht it might help with your decision.
PS - gear is definately covered as contents too! But check with your insurance company as to what type of cover. Mine is only present value which is kinda lame, cos they class it as "sporting equiptment", but others will most like offer better cover...My 2 cents

I've had 2 claims with Protecta in my short time riding, one was not my fault so they dealt with the other party while the other was my fault and haven't really had an issue with them at all. The last one they forgot to cancel the policy but a quick phone call sorted this out easily, so I would recommend them myself

I just had a claim through Kiwibike and too easy is all I can say and great people to deal with.
I hadn't checked prior but my home contents covered the gear but be warned...40% devaluation on gear after 1 year and 60% after 2!! come on!! Argue with them on wear and longevity of the gear compared to a normal pair of Jeans and you will get more. I did and doubled the payout.![]()
Thanks for that link Corse,
I rang Protecta just now, but alas, the best they could offer is $914 annually, on account that I haven't driven a bike in the past 3 years.
Yeah, I was dealing with emigration and living in 3 countries at once... hardly time to ride a bike in between... ;<
Anyway, looks like I'll be choosing between Honda and Kiwibike.
Due to our contents cover *not* covering helmets, I am leaning towards the Honda insurance, but I would really like to hear from someone with some experience with them.
I didn't bother pursuing cover on helmets or gear on insurance... bike is enough...

Bike insured for $4000, premium is $380 p/a, excess $500 I think..
Covers Helmet and gear (to some extent at least)
Had one claim for at fault collision, all good.
Bear in mind that whatever policy you choose, you'll have a 30 day free look. So make sure you don't get mucked around with the paper work, cause it's common practice to drag this out and eat away at your free look. If there are wordings within the policy that you don't like, you can cancel within the first 30 days for a full refund.
As for where?
Kiwibike, NAC, or Star would be my recommendations, though I'm not sure if you can deal directly with Star and may require a broker? I imagine Kiwibike use Star, as well as others?
NAC have apparel cover up to $2500 for the rider, but it's indemnity, not replacement. Named riders only on all policies! Roadside assist and staff are good to deal with and generally very flexible.
Star have more options! They have replacement apparel cover for rider and pillion, up to $2500 each (optional). Low Km discount, roadside assist (optional) and other riders over 25 gain a higher excess ($1500???), but are covered.
Nunquam Non Paratus
For me...
Sum insured $14K
Premium $601
Excess $500
Roadside assist also..
Protecta.
$300 Cheaper than my previous insurer for the same cover.
Im with Kiwibiker and their service is great and good value. I have not had to claim however so am not sure of that important detail.
Matt
