    Hate Demotivators

    Hi
I am strating this thread because I want to share my frustration with like-minded people. Since I have bought my bike, or even before that, every second person i meet who knows I am into motorcycles talks about accidents. It is always some other person they know of who had been in an accident. They often show interest in biking and most say they want to buy a m'cycle for themselves, but then inadvertently shift the topic to accidents. I hate such clairvoyants who claim to predict my destiny indirectly. And I am not talking about family and friends whose genuine concerns you can see. I say if you don't have anything nice to say then just shut your mouth. A simple `Be Safe' would suffice. I don't wanna talk about accidents and how people die. I have been driving cars for 15 years and I understand the risks. I have made an informed decision.

Sorry if I wasted anyone's time, but I need to get this out of my mind.

    Cheers
    N

I always just point out it is the people that have the accidents, not the machines.

It's par for the course. If somebody is wittering on at me about the risks I usually clamp their lips with a curt retort about the lack of average driver ability, basically implying they are the risk. Tends to bring the conversation to an abrupt halt.

Another take on this is the glass half full or half empty thing. Folk who look at the "awful things that might happen" are generally in the latter camp. Leave them too it.

Weirdest thing happened the other day, I found 2 beer bottles and one was half empty and the other was half full. Was the oddest thing I have ever seen!!

You know I heard about this one guy, related to somebody who was like a cousin, twice removed or something. Well he had one of these motorcycles! He hurt himself very badly one day whilst going in to the city! Terrible gravel rash too!! Those things are dangerous and I think you should buy a mobility scooter instead. Be safe.
Rest in peace Tony - you will be missed.

    Seriously,
I know where the OP is coming from, but dude Motorcycling is a form of freedom, people want a slice of it, and if they cant have it, they wanna destroy it for you,
In a tin top your stuck in your lane, you have a solid white line and a broken white line on either side of your car, with fuck all room either side, thats no better than been stuck on a train, forced to follow its rails,
On a bike your still in that lane, but you can do as you please within it, you can take better lines into corners, you can weave about on the straight roads, you can do all sorts thats freedom of the road,
It annoys me how dull headed some people can be, I have been told many a time that I am selfish towards my family for riding a bike, I have been told I wont live to see 25, ill die in a horrific bike accident,
Do you know what I tell people when they tell me ill die in a bike accident?
Good, if dying while doing something I love is how im going to go, then I glad its the thing I love 2nd most. (I have to say this as my Mrs is beside me.. the bike knows it comes first.. )
Iv done alot of good stuff in my life that I can be personally proud of and personally passionate about, but nothing outdoes my passion and pride than my motorcycle and my use of it.

Meh - I'm so friggin' old that killing myself on the bike would be for the greater good anyway! SO what the hey?

The cat'd probably be pissed off for half a day though...

I've had the old death traps speech from many people, usually they have no idea what they're talking about. Share your knowledge of SQUIDS and that a high percentage of bikers are similar to a high percentage of boy racers that hoon far beyond their ability and take themselves out of the gene pool for the greater good of humanity. With some unfortunate accidents happening to good decent blokes/chickadees inbetween.
