I think you would be surprised. Bikes are horribly inefficient at cutting through the air, which is why gutless crap like a Lamborghini has a better top speed even though it weights 2 ton and makes fuck all horsepower.

Would a big fairing like that be that much more efficient than a rider crouched over the tank? It's got a fair bit of extra air to move.

Thats my thoughts to. But he says it weighs 25kg so im going to give it a miss and find something lighter.

I don't know, but I would hazard a guess and say yes.

Compared to car, a bike is basically an aerodynamic brick. 300hp cars seem to get to 300km/hr just fine, even though they weigh over a thousand kilos. An average road bike weighs maybe 200kg and needs around 150hp to get to 300km/hr.

Leaning forward on the tank doesn't negate the front being all flat/bumpy with horrible forks/radiators and other un-aerodynamic shite. Even with all the flash fluid dynamic models in the world, they still don't know a lot, other than pointy objects have a lower cd.

All those figures are obviously just ball park shite to get a point across... anybody looking deeply into them and arguing them will either be ignored as a git, or scathingly ripped into in a manner not seen on KB for a wee while, at my discretion.

    Bloody 'ell, 25kg

Yeah, the concept itself is fine, but yeah look for something lighter. Basically all you want is a top fairing from any thin and pointy. Assuming you don't go so thin as to have nothing to hide behind, then thinner is better. Have a good look at recent 125 and 250 GP bikes for pointers. They also go to the trouble of cleaning up the air coming off the bike too, FWIW.

At $10 this might be worth a try if you can get it to Auckland somehow.

That'd be a good start... tallish wide-ish screen to push the air over you whilst you're tucked.

Anyone remember the CBR600RR double bubble screen test they did in PB? Something crazy like a 19% improvement in the 140-150mph time just by changing to a double bubble. That's cheap HP right there.

At <100mph you're looking at picking up percentage points, not wholes, but every little bit counts right.

Haven't been in that position before, might pay to ask an old codger

TBH though, on a CBX250, I'd be looking for things to increase comfort... you're not going to cut your trip time down appreciably. Having said that, a GP125 isn't a slouch... but I've taken craps that weigh more than those.

Comfort is fine but speed from 100 to 130 is an issue. Mainly for overtaking. Another 10% would make a huge difference. And at that speed a fairing could well help. I have a small Givi screen on that will help so maybe a bigger one.

Dont really think that CBR one would work out in the long run.

I wonder if an XR500 motor would fit in there

That was on my old Spada, someone has fucked with the mounts though (had CBR mounts.) good to see my paint has lasted. They've done a good job of ruining the headlight mount I made...no idea what they've done to it.
The front guard he's selling was on it too, it was for a Bros650. Some dick has painted it, way to fuck a $300 Tyga guard...

    Idiots.

That's what I did, CBR250 MC22 mounts with tags on the triple clamps. The twanger that got it off me promptly broke them
