    Plans for fridays trip North?

    Hi Lower NI dudes,
Whats the plan for Fridays trip North?
So far I'm heading for Waikanae coffee cart at 8.30 on friday am....
Guessing a pretty full and exciting days riding from there, plus the evening ride with Buggs up the ski field road, I'll be knackered for the next 2 days after that!
Is it open to anyone for Friday or do I need to be in "the circle of trust" for that one? (sorry, crap reference from a crap film!)

If this is a question for me, then to be honest I'm kinda unsure exactly which route we will take yet. I am kinda almost thinking about going through the training area for part of it. If we want to keep it simple and stay public access then we can, and bring whoever if that's what you had in mind.
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

    Waypoints

Here's an update of day 1's waypoints and the second day's waypoints for viewing.

I'll have my netbook for those who want to upload to GPS up there.

Day 1 is loosely clockwise but revisits a couple of wpts in a big figure 8 to make the most of the desert.

Day 2 is Clockwise and starts with a challenge section on the way up to the lake, then comes back and heads east to the end of the road.

    Adventure porn right there.

Not anyone in particular, just wondered if there was anyone heading up on friday with an interesting route.
Without scanning back through previous posts, I think I remember Marks mentioning the Waikanae 8.30 meet up. No other posts since then so just trying to organise myself, and not miss out on a cool ride so I dont arrive on friday arvo after a billy no mates ride up on main SH's all the way... when another group has had some proper fun!

Really? A challenge section, how much of a challenge?

dunno, i have yet to see it myself... it will all be bypassable by main or gravel roads. Sounds like most are putting mean tyres on, but group consensus will decide. As i said, im running pansy tyres at road pressure to keep me in line...

    Minor update...

Have requested access to a couple more zones. One for Friday night which would be a gravel ride to the lake, as well as the skifield rd, and a couple of other loops / linkups for Sunday... Trying to pack in as much as we can!

In short, we should now be covering most of the training area except the swamps in the north east corner...and that's hard work even on a 250 so not this time

saw the words 'challenge section' and with a loud 'woohoo' whipped off the back wheel and sped down to the bike shop with a shiny new E09 under my arm...

Just as well I did as it looks like one of the wheel bearings is rumbly....

fortunately I have spare ones and the new water pump impeller turned up today

    so its

    roll on Friday

    Hi Gav

no circle of trust (I wouldn't trust any of the fookers I ride with)

    all pretty informal
planning on leaving the coffee cart at 8.30 (I'll be there about 8.15 for a snort)

Presumably we'll meet Bartholomew in Ashurst about 9.45 or so?

    Wonder what Wades doing?

Then up to Takapri Rd and up to Taihape for a late lunch/early afternoon tea

I gather we need to be at Waiouru by 4.30?

    Weather

Weather looks to be a bit on & off. It is real changeable up there, so I guess what I'd say is expect a bit of slippery stuff on Sunday morning. If it gets too unmanageable we'll just keep to the easy tracks between Camp & Access Road 17 as most of the other stuff is sand or gravel.

No real rush, but I guess the earlier people arrive, the quicker we can bugger off riding - depending on if you want to wait and have a cheap feed in camp from 5.30 or scoff down on the main road. There's about 9 or 10 of us staying Fri night now, which only leave 4-5 others to arrive on Sat morning (= sleep in ).

Just trying to get that other zone now for Fri night, so we're looking to do maybe ~90km on Fri evening. If we want to take it easier we will just stick to Tukino Rd and do the other bit on Saturday.
