    Northern DB1k attempt

    Hi all,

Given that there's sooooo many doing the 2 day dusty this year i figured i'd show you lot how its supposed to be done (well try too at least)

I've pinched the missus's "smart" phone for the day so you'll be able to follow along at,
    http://www.greenalp.com/RealtimeTrac...viewuser=topo1
it'll update every 5 min when in cell range.

Given the issues with the onamalutu i'll have to make up some km's somewhere, but illl work that out at the end of the ride. I'll be starting/finishing from my place in tasman too but these are the only real changes from Ryan's original route.

    Bike's all ready

Topo, appreciate the thought, but you do realise that you've given everyone that logs into this your home address? Might pay to have a 'neutral' start & end point...

Thats pretty cool, both the bike and the tracking.

I wonder however if you should have left turning it on till you were at least a block down the road. I now know exactly where a cool DRZ is parked up.

Snap, Nutty beat me to it.

I forgot about the tube, i'll pop out now if thats ok?.

I've done a couple of test runs, i'm getting around 15.3km/l if i'm giving it some on gravel roads (80km/hr avg speed+), crusing on the seal or dirt will see anything up to 17-18km/l, playing in the dirt will drop that to 10-11km/l. thats running a 158 main jet at the moment.

Don't want to get off topic my friend but would appreciate some help at some time checking out the jetting on my Green POS. I'm still chewing thru far too much gas...

Yea, I clicked the tracking link a few times but you didn't appear to have made much progress yet

I know the Northern route was a bit easier than the Southern ones but I think 13hours will be a new record, though me memory is a bit patchy... think a lot of us done it nearer 18 to 22 hours... guessing now, not actually going to trawl back through the old threads to check.

For crist sake make sure you take care with blind corners and crests !!

Also think I read it's $15 for a bike in the Rainbow now.

Good luck, will watch the progress if I'm not out riding myself.

the unofficial reccord (not that i'm competitive or anything) is 14hrs i believe claimed by racingdave on a 1150gs adv in 09 i think, not planning on taking too many risks given i'm going solo.

Enjoy the ride, it is better to have tried and succeeded, than to have to dial 111 or use that EPIRB mate
OR worse still, the bike comes a cropper due to a misjudged rock or pothole....
    Have fun....
