And the drunk dude who did a runner from the cops and killed 2 elderly people down Fitzgerald Ave, or the lady driving the BMW who didn't look properly at an intersection and wiped out a motorcyclist, or the cop who did a U turn in front of a motorcyclist, or the dude who did a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre and caused a head on crash, or the dude on the GSXR1000 who overtook on a blind corner and nearly caused a head on crash....

The fact remains that NZ drivers are shit in general. The majority of drivers can't even indicate properly at a roundabout, and if they can't do something so simple, why are they even allowed on the roads? It's so easy to blame everyone who is young and drives a "modified" car, but the fact remains that adults are poor drivers as well. It's much easier to blame young people than to admit that your own driving abilities are not as good as you think they are.

Like I've said before, the double standards on this site really piss me off. Plenty of people on here have modified bikes with aftermarket exhausts which are specifically designed to increase the noise output (come on, does a CBR1000RR really need any more power?). Those same people think it's OK for them to do stupid shit like push themselves to the limits on public roads and to attempt to break the land speed record, but if some young dude in a car does the same thing then they should be shot. Why?

I know that a motorbike can do less damage to a third party in the event of a crash than a 1.5 ton car moving at the same speed, but what about if there is an out of control motorcyclist, and a car driver takes evasive action to avoid hitting the motorcyclist? I bet the motorcyclist won't get blamed as much as a young guy driving a fast car.

I see plenty of "boy racer" bashing posts on here (BTW, I don't own a car), yet I hardly see many "crazy dude on a motorbike" bashing posts. The fact remains that not everyone rides a motorbike, and some people who just want to go out for a quiet Sunday drive do get intimidated when they see groups of Harleys with noisy exhausts behind them, or sports bikes overtaking them at silly speeds.

I've been on KB rides before, and I've seen that many of the riders there have bikes which are the "boy racer" equivalent of a bike, and they have a very similar anti authoritative attitude where they feel the need to show off by speeding or doing wheelies and other such stunts which should not be attempted on a public road. I guess doing stupid shit on the roads endangering other people is fine then as long as it's done on a motorbike instead of a car.
I have no trouble understanding the difference between bikers and boy racers and it's one of intent.

When you hang out with the boy racers it’s for the intent of having fun and causing mischief, for example when you hang out at night with criminal morons you are a criminal moron. You are being dammed by association if you are even there.

I have a relatively loud Harley, but I don’t go out at night with my Harley mates riding around in circles through areas where folk are trying to sleep, you see I am not a criminal moron. I have a race car but I don’t go out at night with my car mates looking for a place to tip oil on the road so I can do a burn out, you see again I am not a criminal moron, and tyres are a grand each.

Sure sometimes I go a little fast or don’t leave enough room to pass as I should have, but it is not my intention to do so. When you go out at night with all your boy racer mates with the intent to do a bit of cruzing, show off how fast your mums toyota corrola can go, do a little drag racing, tip oil on the road to do a burn out, you do so with the intention to cause havoc. Then you cry “the pigs are picking on us”! No it’s society’s way of saying your behaviour is not acceptable, time to grow up.
    Just another leather clad Tinkerbell.
The Wanker on the Fucking Harley is going for a ride!

Bullshit. You live in a dream world if you think thats the way it works. Theres plenty of laws that have been enacted against the wishes of the majority. Sometimes it has to happen that way to protect the people from themselves.

Laws are more often than not, introduced to the house in a Private Members Bill and debated, if viable then referred to a select committee to argue the merits of and fine tune, re-introduced to the house, debated again, voted on, and if passed, passed to the Governer General for ratification and signing into law. This is often done without a majority of the people agreeing, it merely takes the majority of the house, and often voters have to 'tow the party line'.

Remember the law change for the 'hobbit' (by the hobbit). Did you vote for that??? I sure as shit didnt.

And as for what SmokeU wants.... what does he want? to smoke dope legally ??? good luck with that, and if that gets passed it sure wont be with a majority support from the people.

How's your Democracy In Action look now??

    SmokeU has always been inconsistent.
At times he tries to be the voice of reason and responsibility. Mostly what he wants is what he wants.

If you got rid of your stupid avatar(s) I could try to take you seriously. As it is I see you as a silly boy with internet access.

You strike me as one of many with their head so far up their ass all they can see is their own concerns.

I would encourage you to attempt to understand how societies develop and organise themselves.

You are typical of your generation in that you live in a society that is so entirely safe you are able to behave in quite anti-social ways without undue consequence. The tolerance of our society is our strenght and our weakness.

As stated above, there needs to be a line in the sand and the law is that line. It doesn't always make sense and it isn't fixed in perpetuity. But it is the line.

If you dont like the 'double standards' of this site then go somewhere else. Simple really.
You're the retard here, if the law does not make sense, and if the law DOES NOT PROTECT ANYONE, then why should I abide by it?

Laws are generally designed TO PROTECT THE INTERESTS OF ONE OR MORE PARTIES. Eg, it's illegal to steal a car because then the victim of the theft will be without a car. It's illegal to exceed speed limits because the risk of having a crash is increased. It's illegal to sell alcohol to 5 year old children because they are unable to make mature enough decisions. It's illegal to operate a vehicle on a public road without a current WOF because the vehicle may be unsafe, it's illegal to operate a vehicle on a public road that is not currently licensed because the ACC levies haven't been paid for.

I'll say it again. LAWS SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO PROTECT THE INTERESTS OF ONE OR MORE PARTIES. Do you get it, or are you too stupid to understand?

It's illegal to smoke pot....because? Alcohol is far more dangerous, common over the counter drugs such as paracetamol can be fatal if overdosed on, eating high fat food every day has been proven to increase the risk of heart attacks significantly, smoking tobacco has been proven to cause cancer.

It'll be fine when I move to Switzerland where there's a direct democracy and the population do actually vote on BINDING referendums all the time.

Because the law doesn't allow for your iTunes pik n mix approach.

And irrespective of your personal view the law still applies to you. Both its penalites and benefits.

I'm not sure if you are some kind of DIY liberterian or simply a rebel without a clue

I don't own a scooter, and I don't operate a motor vehicle on a public road while I am under the influence of illegal substances, or if I believe I am over the legal breath alcohol limit. I consider myself safe to ride again once the effects of the substances in question have subsided enough for me to feel sober enough to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Many laws relate to general order, rather than the specific protection of people. You may think that you have the right to disregard laws that you disagree with - we can only assure you that you don't.

You're the quintessential hypocrite - you demand that people who txt and drive be shot, then cry like a baby about the injustice when caught speeding past a school.

No-one has appointed you as arbitary judge with regard to the validity of law.

Comparing idiots who txt and drive with people who go 6kmh faster than the speed limit on a straight road in good conditions is just silly.

Have you ever operated a motor vehicle on a public road when you're hung over? What about when you're tired? Or have the flu? How do you know when you're too tired to safely drive? If you're so tired then then you're making that decision when you're affected by lack of sleep. That's pretty much the same argument as you're trying to make.

I'm well aware of the fact that some scooter have a bigger engine than my TS185. I really don't see how that's relevant to this thread.
