How's the Sandpit at the moment? (1 January)

Whats it riding like? Has the rain settled it down a bit?

It's not always good, was out there a couple of weeks ago and the sand was really soft in places, enough to randomly suck in the front wheel and send me off in unwanted directions. After the 4th over the bars off on the same track I got grumpy and went home.

Should be sweet out there at the moment though, might head out there on Tuesday.

Yes, it is always good. Any place that we get to ride is good and for that matter, what for gods sake is the hang up with soft sand?
To a lot of us its just another condition that we have to adjust to and if you are getting thrown off 4 times on one track then figure out how to conquer it.
BT was out when it was soft a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it. Take some cement pills and harden up will ya.

Surely Dirt biking is not just about riding in ideal conditions. Now thats boring.
We're all going to Maramarua tomorrow for a mud fest.

Sandpit is open tomorrow, closed Tuesday, open Wednesday.

It can be hard work but so is mud, they require different skills and (IMHO) they are skills that are worth learning. Learn how to attack the terrain and you will become a better rider, there is an old saying about a bad tradesman blaming his tools for bad workmanship, blaming the terrain for your inability to ride it is exactly the same.

Treat it as an opportunity to learn something new.

When you first start riding in sand it can be a challenge, but the usual story the more you do it the better you get.
There are lots of trails that are not just sand. The blue trails and red are the best any way.

No offence intended, I just wasn't in the mood for picking myself up off the ground and spitting sand out of my helmet that day.

Some days I see those conditions as a challenge, some days I just want to throw my toys out of the... erm... sandpit... it was one of the latter days that day and I'll be back regardless.

Well to be fair it comes back to leisure time vs the conditions. If its not fun then why do it? If woodhill to soft then go to another venue which is not.

Sandpit excellent today, bugger all people so heaps of parking, all tracks good. Can't remember ever having a bad day there... Like someone else said, if you find the sand is too deep, may be riding too slow... but it's a great place to learn control and balance, there's also all the forest trails.
