Obviously there will be reasons and decisions that wont be 'public domain' but if a dealer that was supposed to be Yamaha's No1 sales shop has closed it's doors (waikato yamaha), then there must be something going on in certain areas at least.
I guess it will be the small local dealers you'll see go first, just like many small local garages have gone in urban areas.
As much as we expect bike sales to be the 'bread and butter' I would guess a fair amount of turnover would have to come from ancilaries and clothing sales. The crop of online stores in tardme etc must be having an effect at some level. I know of one online store that refused to suppy an item trade to my local dealer, with the comment "we are out to close down dealers like you, if they want an item we can provide, they'll have to buy it from us"... Well thats an interesting attitude, they could supply wholesale to a shop and get greater turnover?? However more interestingly to me is the idea that they want to close dealers down... So when My bike needs a repair WOF, new tyre fitted? I e-mail them, and it gets fixed over the internet?
There will be dealers without a doubt, but it will be 'interesting' to see what will happen in the next year or two.
