i reckon there must be a long overseas trip on the horizon for you this year

Since you've had moillions of panniers, did you find you need to hold soft ones off the bike with racks? I want to make some up but don't want any metal around as they all seem to break on the first drop.

On DR650's..... I was looking/thinking about Tiger XC's, 660Tenere's, even 990's, but for that sort of coin I could get 2 650's which will do the same job, maybe with not the same refinement or style, but that's o.k; I'm not very refined or stylish m'self

For Smitty ? Yes.... IMHO you need something to attach the bag to stops it getting caught in the wheel and spreading your crap all over the place
If'n you want to knock some up I have some left over tube and know where to get a small pipe bender. More than happy to provide help/welding beer drinking skills
