eek Bike loyalties & heritage. POLL

    Hey there people,

I'm a curious newbie trying to get a feel for the market in NZ,

I love the look of both jap bikes and Italian. But i also could imagine myself riding a Stripple.

My point is as I am new I have not developed any brand loyalty. Upon reading some of the threads here I have learned that there is some fierce brand loyalty among the biking community.

as I'm not really interested in individual brands, I'm focusing this poll on the feel of the bike. I.e the nationality and all of the heritage & pedigree associated with the nationality.

Soooo. please indulge me as i am curious, and if i decide to do something (like riding) I usually totally immerse myself in said activity. This just helps me to understand the culture here in NZ.

Edit: You can choose more than one Nation in the poll, (if ya cant decide).

Look around, try a few, own a few and make your own mind up! Surely brand loyalty is earnt not given lightly?

When people say you should 'Ride your own ride' it can be extended out to a wider context.....

Bike's a bike mate. Buy what you want and laugh at the people who are narrow minded enough to care about the brand name or country of origin.
Where is the "I don't care" option?

I am a through and through Yamaha supporter. But even I would admit some of there bikes are shit (XV), or ugly (TDM).
As for supporting a country, while I don't support Japanese manufacturers 100% its very difficult to break them. But when I look at the brand new prices of some of there bikes, I do wonder why people would buy them over an american/german or itallian.

As for the pom bikes, they are ok. And are getting cheaper to own as the european market crashes.

Others have said it, I will repeat it. Its never the manufacturer. Its never the country. Its always the bike.

Where's the option for "Doesn't Matter", or "Loyal to the next bike that does what it's supposed to, when it's supposed to"?

yep pretty much agree. There are good and bad in all brands. I am loyal to Italian bikes but I also like to tinker so that goes hand in hand. Tried the triple but went back to Italian and now I am hankering for a large capacity IL4 from Jap land. Its all about the ride enjoyment. Different folks like different things. Always will.

Oh and try visiting different bike model dedicated forums...........they all think their model/brand is the best. Say no more.

Looks like another option needs to be added.

    I didn't include one because I wanted a gauge.

Two of the people that "don't care" expresses preferable options being, Yamaha (japan) or Italian.

This is what I'm trying to gauge and this is why i didn't include a don't care option.

I'm not trying to start yet another which bike/or brand is better just gauge a feel for who or where the "community" feels designers are getting it right, and making bikes that people like.

so just for my sake please indulge me instead of hating the poll and recommending i go and ride for my self.

    Cheers

    no "all of the above"?

there are very few bikes that I would ever go "I absolutely categorically would NEVER EVER buy or own one of those shitpiles". All bikes are cool, to a greater or lesser extent. Cooler than cars anyway.

Your poll sucks and you should go and ride for your self.

it is so wide as to be meaningless. the "community" here ranges from people who got their licence and SYM wolf two weeks ago to guys who do Dusty Butts and race MX. I put it to you that there is no unifying theme in motorbikes, there is no geographic or cultural consistency in iconography and an MV Agusta has more in common with an R1 than it does with a Vespa or a Benelli TnT.

    Bah Humbug.

I think you need to rethink your poll and what you are trying to achieve with it. Many excellent statistics, such as "Motorcyclists are 20 times more likely to suffer a serious injury in a MVA than a driver of a motor car" have been made up by people not thinking about the question they are seeking an answer to, and not structuring the poll options to reflect that question.
