Not if you set them up right...I had one with a slippery diff with Minilites fitted with Dunlop Targas. Set it up like my race car, no toe in front and rear, 12 deg of castor, max camber on the front and (I think) about 4.5 deg camber on the rear. Twitchy as hell and huge fun but hell on tyres.

Used to upset a few people on track days and no one managed to stay with me through the Sisters on the Desert road, and a number tried including the guy in the Clubsport who drove himself of the road trying. Lucky for him, red face only, no damage.

Hugely underrated car and can be made to go very well. Got taken to the cleaners up North by a guy who had fitted a rotary to his. Similar handling but way faster on exit.

Ed, if you want to check your slippery diff. get on a dirt road (private one of course...) and stand on the gas just before the apex and you should be able to hold it sideways with no "sawing" at the wheel. If it's not working you'll probably go right round....hence the private road..........

He he! Not too many dirt roads around Orewa and I am stingy about tyres these days... One day I'll take it to a track for fun!

I'd like to try an MX5 one day, but would prefer an MGF if we're gonna go 'modern'....

Otherwise another MG BGT would be lovely

Can't recommend the MGF, even when done up by a specialist and having had the plastic head gasket and the spaghetti head bolts replaced with steel one's they still fall apart. My sister and her hubby thought they got a good one but lived to regret it. I did try to put them off and told them to buy anything Japanese but not the MGF...

Yeah I have heard bad things about the lovely MGF head gaskets....

Hence why I'd own a B again over an F....

Sounds like an understatement... Bit like the guy who put a 5lt Mustang into his MX5.

You can do good things with that heavy old cast iron motor, my bro-in-law raced an 1800 in dirt track and it was competitive and reliable. Trouble is the B is a classic and you start at a fairly high price to get one then spend money on it to get it going and handling more like an MX5 than an Oxford...

Wouldn't be buying it for handling lol, lost the back end a couple of times in my old one.

I'm a FWD drive man , but still have an 1800 B in my landcrab so very happy.

Plus you can't get kids in the MG....

Nice but maybe I'm getting old. The idea of having a monster in disguise appeals to me and that 5lt Mustang powered one was on TM a while ago for $45k. It was built properly and not much was MX5 underneath. Trouble is the car in standard trim like mine will see off most cars on the road unless they are exotic and well driven. Plus anything but a rotary or very light V6 would upset the beautiful steering and handling.
