    speedo

speedo healer is over 150$ even at my reduced rate of purchase. i can borrow the misses android phone, get a waterproof casing mount for 50$ at most, download a free android gps speedo app that works on full display (almost 4"). tested in the car on Saturday on the way to raglan and proved very successful - so next is a bike mount.
    Issues and solutions:
    1. Sun glare = get "sun visor" for the casing
    2. Battery power = take spare battery
    3. Rain (not sure on this one yet)
    4. Getting pinched = take it out of case and use the unit for its original intent, a phone

There will be other issues such as gps loss in tunnels etc but the idea is to get a feeling on how much the speed is out by so can stick to speed limit if kiwi law decides to make the 4km speed threshold permanent. We pay enough in regos and fuel tax - no need to give any more.

The other core benefit of using the phone is that if TEC gets sick of following me one day, I can at try and find my way back via google maps / navigator. (if there is service)

This article reminded me of my near miss with Mark 3 weekends ago with the lor group ride to Kaiaua:

I'm away this weekend so if anyone wants to plan a ride please do so. Paeroa races are on and thats always a good option for a Sunday ride, we have been a couple of times over previous years and well worth going if you haven't been. Set ups pretty good too with storage areas for your gear at about $5 a bag and some good bike gear stalls and facilities to watch some pretty good racing.

Following week is Westpac Helicopter Ulysses ride in Auckland leaving Karaka at 9.00 a.m. I think. I will be looking at going on this as it is a hugely worthwhile cause to assist. Unfortunately Bikes, Blues and BBQ is not on the same day this year and we have to wait or 01 April for that ride!!!

A TV programme looked at car speedo reading errors last year. An indicated 8 kph faster than the true speed at 100kph isn't unusual.
All vehicle manufacturers build in a a speedo tolerance. They say it's in the interests of safety (if you're going to use the speed limit as a target we'll help make you drive/ride slower) but I'd say it's more to do with covering their asses.

I don't have an issue with speedo inaccuracies unless it was say 10km/h out. It's always a nice "bonus" if you ever get pulled up being a criminal thinking you were doing 20km/h over the limit and you're told you were only doing 12km/h over . Do not reply "really? I thought I was going faster" haha

I tolerated a 7% over-read on the SV for two years without a problem. But the 9% was enough to confuzzle me. Tried to sort it but gave up eventually...

Did they put up much fight or were they pretty good to deal with it? Good to hear it's getting sorted without you having to lose out.

You don't ask for much, do you?

You forgot to ask about valet parking for the bike and red carpet at the door
