With a budget of 7-10 forget about TLRs unless you want to spend another few $1000 and heaps of your own time getting it right, ive nothing against them i love both the S and R but there old,if the suspenders havent been changed then there fucked as are swingarm bearings/steering head bearings and i havent the time to list the rest,Some have mentioned Bandits which is a great choice and a smart buyer could by a very late model Bandit for $10,ooo.Have to laugh at whoever suggested an SP1,great bike but who the fuck in there right mind would ride one as an everyday bike?

    try a ZZR1100, hahaha I'm selling one...
Seriously though, with bar risers and touring screen, they do take some beating as a long distance mount. They are 'docile' below 6k unless you really twist the loud lever,,,, but above 6k? its a Continent eating ballistic missile.

    Ducati ST4 or ST3

You could consider something a little different, you may get hooked. A European sports-tourer the Ducati ST series.

The ST3 is the newer model but either bike would be exciting for you. Or an ST2 which has a normal air cooled motor with lower horsepower and is well regarded.

Apart from that, BMW is the obvious choice. Either an S or RT (sport or full touring) version.
