dont count on it, i got ripped by a dealer, (still bitter and twisted about it). private sales are ok, you will never really know engine hrs unless of course you know the bike which is a bonus, dealers will bullshit you about them anyway.unless its a new or near new bike you can count on doing some sort of work on it in the near future.thats my experience any way, and the bikes ive bought have been around the 3 to 4 yr old, so not dungas.

most dealers wont sell a bike with known faults as it will only come back to bite them, the only thing they don't check is an engines service tolerances as this would require an engine tear down, most common faults can be easily seen or heard/felt.
Buying from Trademe its Buyer Beware, if spending your fortune best to get it checked out by a dealer [usually $100] and get a Police Vin/car jam to see if money's owed or stolen.
What you said. I have never regretted buing a bike from a dealer - and I buy used; even if there are problems at least the bike has miles on it so I know it has worked and was not unrideable from the factory. In my (personal) experience dealers stay in business because they look after customers, and it's worth developing a relationship with a dealer that lasts over time. As with just about everything - you pay for what you get, but you're more likely to get what you paid for.

Thats shit you had that experience, but you can't paint all dealers in the same light as one that may have given you a crappy deal.

But as I said "most" dealers will try to do right by the customer, as it is in their best interest. Hopefully next time you get a better experience.
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing
