    KTM 690 - fitting a UNI filter

The bike seems to be fighting every mod I do. The latest one was fitting a foam UNI filter to replace the standard paper filter. Easy you would think. Nope. On my bike there was mould flashing left on the inside rim at the front of the airbox. This didn't trouble the standard filter but the UNI filter is deeper and hit the flashing preventing it fitting. Much swearing and cutting away of plastic later got it in. Wasn't easy to get at due to position between frame tubes. There was no flashing on the other three sides of the box which are easy to get at. Makes me wonder if the airbox moulding isn't cleaned up in the factory until after it's installed...

Is yours Uni P/N: NU-1417ST? That is the one I fitted without any problems.

PS: Saw your post on the rear wire when fitting a tail rack, almost damaged mine, I push back the wire with a small flat srewdriver and then quickly as possible before it moves back partially covering the hole do what I need to do.
Would like to see your tail rack at some stage.

I'll be on most of the gravel rider club rides I hope. So you'll see it there.

Bummer, that you are having glitches...but rest assured, they are all worth it..keep the faith brother - the 690 is an ass kicker for sure (ask my mate on his brand new Aprilia 550RXV...he's still grumpy that he can't beat its performance)

I've done these mod's and additions to date...most have gone on easily, but there is always some jiggery pokery :-)

    MT21, K60.
Rox anti-vibe risers (cause I needed higher bars for standing...didn't really need the anti vibe)
upgraded digital display (early versions shook the internals causing failing displays and dust inside)
ktm990 folding mirrors,( 690 mirror vibrate too much and can't see out of, the eventually fail and break.990 mirrors fold out the way for off road riding...nice)
custom windscreen (just to give a tad more wind protection, but its really to protect headlamp from stray rocks)
wolf man tank bag (perfect size)
flatland racing bash plate (solid and good value)
ktm luggage rack with mod for givi topbox,
ktm ergo gel seat - still freaking hard on the ass, but getting used to it. Didn't 950K's last weekend...and coped
KTM Orange foam air filter, and drilled airbox
Akro race map loaded - uploaded by shop, good mod.
leo vince muffler - sounds better, gets ride of the nuclear heating unit that burns everything
front fork air bleeds - better than loosening screws
neoprene shock socks - prevents shit, tar, grit getting into seals
sigutech clutch slave unit - double o-ringed..was a perfect fit
rally raid billet sprocket cover - replaced the plastic cover just in case chain breaks (ask Night falcon...)
rally raid top and bottom tank bolts - top ones break, bottom ones can be hard to remove over time.

Thats all I can think of at the moment...
...back in the saddle, and getting a little!

Hi vegeman. Don't get me wrong. I love this bike. Just a bit peeved about so many, admittedly minor, problems on such an expensive bike. Doesn't stop me enjoying it every time I ride it. Got a big ride coming up this weekend. Can't wait.
