They community constanble eventually tracked me down. Talked to me for ages, he was trying to explain that its not the answer but he agreed that the tactic worked and asked if id be interested in being involved in the neighborhood watch but there guidelines were a bit limiting....

See crime is down, that is one less vandalism report, and once you've had a word to the goats involved without the bleeding heart family feel good session there will be no more, vandalism or hoons. The police can then get on with their real jobs of investigating tea parties and traffic.

Rubbish. Theft is a crime, stealing someone's property is also stealing someone's time - because we work for what we own. And claiming on insurance results in increased premiums for all insureds - as well as losing more time.

You're talking through your arse. The Police will not get involved in burglary, even when you can point to your own stuff in someone else's property. They regard it as an Insurance matter. They claim to not have the resources to investigate, every time.

Jim was echoing the perception of the cops attitude to thievers, not how it should be. Unfortunately you're both right.

Having also had 3 bikes stolen last year(from a trail ride) I'm all for Choppas method.
On another note we had 3 x 18 year olds smashing our letter box last year at 3 am.
KO'd 2 (let them have a free hit first) and the other took off. Both their mums rang me in the morning from the hospital.
Then had an intruder at midnight trying to get into the shed. The dog bailed him and then I restrained him for 30 minutes until the cops arrived. We have a family plan and being rural one of us is always tasked with hanging in the back ground with MR Pump (six in the mag and one up the spout) just in case.
At trial the defence lawyer tried the ole "he was lost and the got beaten up by the land owner" defence (section 63 I think). Prick had 185 convictions, and one of those was for sex with an animal. Mrs was pissed as the animal was a horse and hers was in the paddock next to the shed. Don't know if he was after the bikes or a bit of nooky...Prick got 50 hrs comunity.
    Jeez what a year.

Word gets around a small comunity if you stick up for yourself and your property.
Anyway our bikes never got found(surprise) and the cops did try quite a bit but we had to push them with leads etc.

Projection much? In terms of what orifice you communicate through yourself...

Burglary and vandalism is not only property damage, it is home invasion even if the home is unoccupied. It is a security issue. What's to say that the burglars have gone, or have gone for good. People who get away with burglary unoccupied homes graduate to worse offences.

As for the claim not to have the resources to investigate - heck, they don't even bother to show up.
