God damn HJC

My partner purchased a new HJC when she got her license. Within a month she was having trouble with the visor. I took a look and noticed way too much movement in the mechanism that the visor attaches to. The plastic screws that hold it to the helmet had already come loose. Not good as have had the same thing happen to my HJC.

I went for a ride the other day and went to crack the visor open and the right side came away completely from the helmet. Turns out the plastic screws had worked their way loose again but this time all the way out. Seriously not good! I hand tightened them on the side of the road and carried on. Someone just reminded about this so I got a flat head scewdriver and tightened them up properly....well tried to. One of the scews completely snapped the head off as soon as it got a small amount of torque on it.

Is this common for HJC? I have always found their visor mechanism to be a massive pain in the ass as it can be quite difficult to open at the best of times.

haven't had that issue with my 3 HJCs. I have had the visor pop lose of the mechanism but been able to just push it back in and it has stayed so put it down to not having clipped it in correctly first time.
This and another comment on HJC, I might have a look at putting a drop of a none solvent glue in the screw holes, something like PVA - and not over tighten the screws

They have just invented this stuff called loctite, you should look into it.

Haha the thing was barely tight when it snapped. The other screw was much tighter and held up fine! I have some blue loctite around I should try and find it.

Yeah heard of this loctite stuff, think they use it for preventing loose nuts Is the blue safe for plastic? What's the risk to the polstyrene should it leak through?

My HJC did similar ! Glue is your friend, stick the fucka on so it lives for another year or so ! Worked for me and that was two years back!

Probably your head gets glued to the helmet and you can never get the helmet off ever again...

I check the screws on my helmet mechanism (HJC CL-ST) whenever I pull the visor off for cleaning but have never had a problem. Also, I have put solid lube on the slide system which stops the components grabbing, but isn't too loose.

Mine is also a CL-ST. Never thought of lubing the slide system

Had a couple of HJC, CL14 I think? 2nd one probably needs replacing, I use them for commuting. The whole mechanism on the side which holds the visor sometimes plays up, so I fixed it by never swapping the visor...

Anyone need some clears? They barely get used

Test it of course if concerned, but I'm pretty sure that cyanoacrylate ("superglue") based adhesives do not react with polystyrene so would be quite safe (even in the unlikely event the adhesive ever got down to the foam, which I don't see would be possible anyway)

Loctite is just such an adhesive.

Just don't use any sort of solvent adhesive, you'll wind up with a goopy mess of ex-foam in a helmet shaped bucket.
