It's a long time ago, but I only recall suffering from arm pump as a novice.
When we rode all weekend, every weekend (enduro, hare scrambles and trail rides) it wasn't a problem.

Many a top racer wether it be moto-x or road racing has had to have operations to fix it mate. Doubt people like Freddie Spencer or Nicky Hayden could be classed as either unfit or novices.

Yip, its a bit of a prick of a thing to 'catch". I have had it occur twice to me, in both cases it was on a new bike and i had not 'set up" bars, pegs, seat height to how i like them. Tight riding gear is another cause also.
Its weird how just a small change to bar height or angle can totally eliminate the problem (or cause it)

The other thing that is difficult to comprehend for many is just how damm hard you are pulling on those bars to make the bike steer (particularily for fast turns), - evidence of this is when a handlebar will 'spin" on the staunchion - but when you come into the pits to adjust it back in a hurry, - you need a mate or a big hammer to pull on it.........

Yep. Every now and then I'd get it 'out of the blue'...and it ain't fun. When racing moto-x, it was normally me having the death grip on the bars! Hard to remind yourself to relax sometimes when a 450 4t or 500 two stroke is doing it's best to stomp on your head.

And you're absolutely right about the forces involved. More than most people would ever imagine!

Had to laugh reading the latest edition of 'Kiwirider' magazine.

The Bottom Line by Darren Sweetman starts of by him saying "Anybody that knows me knows that I can be very opinionated on most subjects, ecpecially the riding of motorcycles.

Those people also know that I am opinionated for a very good reason. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to riding"

He then goes on to say "Stoner relies 100% on his traction control where the other three riders actually control the bike themselves"

What a crock of shit. It's pretty well known that Stoner turns his TC way down compared to other riders, his own team mates have all commented over the years it's his incredible throttle control that makes him such a weapon. He was able to ride the Ducati well and steer it with the rear wheel with the TC turned way down, something no one else has been able to do.

Have you not seen pics of Stoner full lock sideways on a dirt bike while still basically wearing nappies Darren? It's all about 'throttle control' in the dirt. You of all people should know this.

I wondered if it was a typo Crasher! Then went searching or articles on Stoner found this, just to confirm what I knew. Good read actually

As you say Its very well documented that Stoner doesn't use as much traction control, so the complete opposite to what Darren said even what he said about Lorenzo and Pedrosa was opposite I reckon????
I dunno how the heck he or the publisher (if we give Darren the benefit of the doubt) could get it so wrong?? Doesn't say much for SBK school??
I don't personally know Darren but that seemed really strange??

OH and BTW last GP Stoner wasn't the fastest in the world was he :P Wasn't there someone else on that top step LMAO.
Awesome GP BTW was in welly so watched it Monday morn at Donnelly's house farkin good race I reckon.
Bring it on, I love watchin Stoner clinging to the side of that bike, there no one with his style.
But I'd quite like to see Pedro stick it up all of them just to make it exciting.
Poor Rossi is fucked ATM and it's bloody sad to see, I reckon
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Thanks mate good read about the only option that I could see he didn't put forward was that Suzuki seize the moment and re-enter Moto GP with Rossi on board.
Now that would make sense for Suzuki and Rossi. They'd get a great development team in Rossi and Burgess and he'd get a bike that had quite good potential in its last few races in Moto GP.
Just a left field scenario, but it'd be interesting watch.

Stoner might have to turn his traction control up a touch so his tyres last the distance. Looked like he was riding on shinko's by the end of the race.

I think he's obviously just another hater than can't admit the thruth. I sold him a bike a while ago, and we touched on the subject then.

And hate to say this (nah...I don't really), but I think Stoner did indeed show he's still the fastest man in the world in Qatar. The ease with which he gapped the others must have them shitting their pants once again. Arm pump up is a nasty thing, as I'm sure you'll know. He'll get it sorted and come back strong.

Be an awesome race in Jerez next weekend, but I reckon that'll be teween Lorenzo and Pedrosa there with Stoner fighting the rest for third.
It's pretty much Stoner's bogie track.

And yep...the Rossi thing is indeed sad to see. No one but a true sadist would like to see such a great champion look so down and out.

Despite what people may think, I'm certainly not enjoying it. Far rather see him giving the others at the front shit.

The post-race interview was a classic. Jorge and Dani said how satisfied they were, then Casey explained that he developed arm pump very early and tried to adopt a smoother riding style, while he was riding away from the others. Then he said he was happy that he'd shown he was the fastest rider. Zoom back to Jorge and Dani looking a bit glum (though with Dani that's how he always looks).

Unlike you and your mate Darren Sweetman, I can't tell much about a rider's style by looking at him. But for what it's worth, I agree that "Casey relies 100% on his TC" is bollocks. They all use their TC and they all need to trust it do what they expect, but that's not the same as saying they'd be unable to adjust if they didn't have it. Many other riders have commented on Casey's incredible throttle control and I suspect he'd cope without TC better than anyone else.
