I dont think the merc was as old as the plate suggest,
it was a very tidy convertible, like this one.
    But dark green

While there's no doubt that the driver in this case was being an absolute cock, this bit has me concerned:

Why on earth would you want to be across the centre-line in the face of oncoming traffic? It seems to me to be a seriously dangerous place to be, low speed or not.

Also said they finished the overtake with 100m of clear road ahead

This is my thought. I have to constantly lanesplit through central Auckland in peak hours but I never split up the hard left of a left-most lane (the gutter is a bad place to be) though some do, and I never split riding or crossing the centre-line. So sometimes I do get stuck in a queue but I've never had an accident or some mad cunt cracking the shits at me in two years of commuting into the CBD every working day.
You want some advice - lightning strikes once, it does not strike twice!

    Tsk, consider yourself taught...

You are not allowed to utilise the benefits of your narrow, agile, fun, choice of transport on the same road as somebody with a strong moral instinct to enforce the road code as they see fit to the limit of their understanding. You have to sit in the queue with everybody else & boil your motor.
How ruddy well dare you make progress. Disgusting.

What is with people having to prove just how tiny their appendages are? FFS!

I wonder what was going through this dick heads mind tonight when he actually turned his headlights onto high beam and proceeded to drive straight towards me, passing just a few centimetres to the right of my mirror.

I was quietly filtering past a very slow, stopped at times queue of cars. There was no traffic coming the other way. It is a wide laned road with parking shoulders provided so a very safe place to pootle along passing cars. This idiot turns the corner and spots me minding my own business, just over the centre line indicating my intention to overtake. He turns his lights on, then selects high beam, puts his foot down and proceeds to start driving very close to the centre line heading straight for me.

Now, I dont seem to have any problems with the traffic I regularly filter past, they are considerate, as am I, and accomodate me getting back into the flow with no issues, but this plonker obviously does not like bikers.

Must be the day for it I guess, sad thing to experience.

He must have an inny I reckon
so because you are irked, everyone else has a small cock?
you were over the centre line, and he passed closely to you? what do you fucking expect? you were on HIS side of the road. You also mention that he had just turned the corner, so, you chose to overtake, by going onto the wrong side of the road, near an intersection, where you couldnt be sure if the road would be clear for the duration of your manoeuvre?
sounds to me like you are the twat on this one.

Do you drive/ride 6000 km a week or are you are trouble magnet?... or are you routinely making mountains out of molehills??

There was no traffic coming that is the point. I happily pootle up that road just over the centre line almost every day, I have never had problems. There is no risk to me doing this as the lane beside is wide with a huge shoulder, and like I said I have never had an issue like this before.

Well I do filter through traffic when it is stopped/going so slowly it may as well be stopped. I dont take risks in my opinion, and I dont as a rule ever have car drivers aiming straight for me either.

I will forgive you, for you obviously dont have to navigate your way through traffic that we have here in the shitty city, so you really have no idea of what you are talking about regarding filtering in traffic ( shit I have also been known to use flush medians - bite me) and you also have completely missed the point of my thread. This bloke deliberately drove towards me, he did not just pass close to me, he made a point of making it clear he was going to run me down. He spent the best part of at least 100 metres heading directly for me, with his lights on high beam, I was probably back over the centre line when he went past me. I did not make an overtaking manouver near an intersection at all. Mind you twats do have some problems making themselves understood by people with poor reading/comprehension skills

    +1 to you too

Seriously Anne, I think you're missing the real point. The car driving straight at you, while you were on the wrong side of the road, suggests otherwise? You seem to be rather irate that you had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision when you were on the wrong side of the road?

You're suggesting that because it's a wide road oncoming cars have plenty of room to keep left, so therefore it's okay to create your own passing lane on their side of the road, and that they should make room?

Lane-splitting between low-speed queues of cars going your own direction is a valid option, and it's up to each rider to consider the merits and risks of doing it. But lane-splitting across the centre line and into the face of on-coming traffic is seriously seriously dangerous - don't do it, eh.

I've had two incredibly close shaves in the cage with bikers "lane-splitting" down the centre-line. As you can tell, the practice really alarms me.

The centre-line is sacrosanct and is not negotiable.

The only thing worse than arrogance born in ignorance, is to follow it up with non constructive unecessary tantrums.
Political correctness: a doctrine which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd from the clean end.

objected to me filtering this evening on the ride home,
Filtering up to the lights at the 10-15kph I do each night,
Pulled up at the line beside her, a good meter between her and I and the same on my right.
    Four lane road 4.30pm traffic,
""Oi you:, she yelled at me" you not meant to do that""
She pulled her car forward to be beside me, in doing so , her car was over the line and in the flow of the crossing traffic.
"oh, you have a problem with me lady""
""your meant to be behind me, in the line of traffic"" she said,
    "" oh sorry, " i replied
At this point she decided to turn her car towards me, attempting to dive into me!!
    "W T F...Lady get real" I yelled at her.
She continued to creep towards me so I lifted my left boot, and calmly removed her right mirror.
The light change green, with a quick check to ensure no red lighters were coming, Im off.
Behind me I could hear this Merc revving hard, and the woman yelling out her window.
Fortunately, the two lanes of traffic were banked up a short distance ahead of me,
thus I was able to slip between two vehicles waiting at the next set of lights.
Having placed a ""shield"" between me an this aggressive lady. I took note of her very easy to remember plate.
Then I filtered up to the next set of lights, again at 10- 15 kph.
Continuing my normal, sedate pootle home filtering as I went.
I can understand a person getting annoyed and voicing thier opinion at the lights,
But there was no need to deliberately try to ram me.
Shame her expensive Merc convertible Reg 02MERC is now minus a right side mirror,
Sorry lady, my boot did not see you ....
Well done, more of this I say.
