The only thing illegal afoot here is the absence of an approved securely fitting helmet. At highway speeds yesterday, I saw a similar muggins astride a Harley together with a bunch of his helmeted mates, heading south to Wellington. Which of the two numpties in question was at the greater risk? At least numpty on the Keeway has a screen.

Having ridden (in Raro) without a helmet or any other gear I must confess to rather enjoying the sensation; on the other hand crashing on the motorway while wearing my helmet, which did sustain damage, and other assorted riding apparel proved the importance of it all when things don't go according to plan. All it takes is one occasion where it all goes pear shaped to make you appreciate ya safety gear.

"Safety" gear doesn't work. The only thing that has any value at all in an "accident" is a helmet, and making it compulsory to wear a helmet on a bike is just about the biggest insult a Government can hand out to its citizenry.
If you don't wear one and have an "accident", you may end up like Gary Busey. At least the rest of us will be entertained.
