I just got home a little while ago after a big day of riding and the incident in the hutt, my first thought was wheres the vodka. Instead I just poured some juice and sat on the couch. I still want a drink, but no. Just no.

I appreciate all the feedback, and the suggestions will come in handy as I start a new sober journey. I like the sodastream idea. Gives me something to drink on my birthday night!

Apple cider vinegar, manuka honey and hot water is a nice refreshing drink, and it is a great detox aid.

I used to drink a fair bit on Friday and Sat night but when I split with the ex I didnt have much cash so I needed pick between nice bike or drinking. Bikes won. I could do both now but I lost the taste and dont miss the hangovers. I do the work socials and odd night but maybe 4 drunken stints per year max. The xmas dozen sits in my fridge and runs out about late Feb early March.

If you need help getting off the drink I have a lovely home for any Vodka you should have laying round, I'll also foster gin, tequila, schnapps, wine, sake, in-fact most white sprits or liqueurs.

You can buy it already prepared like the comvita stuff, http://www.comvita.co.nz/health-food...eygar-140.html but I like to mix it myself because then I can get it just the way I want.

I only ever drink when I go to the pub... which used to coincide with watching lots of football, and/or quiz night, and/or a manly bonding session or two per week. Some jobs I've had have had interesting friday night ritual drinking sessions. These days (pretty much since coming to NZ) I still only drink when I go to the pub, but fortunately that's only once or twice a month (damned expensive business) and I really don't miss it at all.
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!

Good luck staying sober. Personally when I decided I nolonger liked getting drunk I learnt to listen to my body, and not to my mates, and to space out the drinks so I could still enjoy the alcohol but not have to suffer the fallout like hang-overs. Sometimes I get it wrong but whats life without mistakes

BTW a hang-over is largely dehydration so plenty of water helps, a sipper bottle at night for whenever you wake.
